Valerie Bertinelli Says Kids Baking Championship Is 'in Excellent Hands' During Reunion with New Host Kardea Brown

The Food Network stars had a sweet interaction during the Nov. 4 episode The Drew Barrymore Show. They discussed Bertinelli’s former gig and Brown’s new role Children’s baking championship.

The Let yourself go the cookbook author — who joined as the newest member of the Drew Crew in September — was a co-host Children’s baking championship with Duff Goldman since its premiere in 2015. The Delicious Miss Brown the host was announced as Bertinelli’s replacement on 2 October.

During Monday’s episode, Drew Barrymore introduced Brown as the “new co-host” of the youth-oriented competition show. “Val, you were the host Children’s Baking Championship,” she said.

“And now it’s in excellent hands,” he said Hot in Cleveland star interjected.

Later in the segment, Brown walked Bertinelli, Barrymore and Ross Mathews through her catfish taco recipe on air.

“You know who I learned from?” Brown said looking at Bertinelli. She replied flatly, “Oh, stop, you didn’t.”

“Oh, absolutely! Look, we’re not going to talk about how much I’m going to fangirl, but I want to fangirl backstage,” Brown said as Bertinelli grabbed her hand and kissed her.

The famous chefs explained that they have known each other “for a long time”. Barrymore then asked Brown how Children’s baking championship either until now.

“Oh my God, it’s so much fun,” she replied. “It’s a pleasure. It’s a blessing.”

“Val, what was your favorite thing about that show?” Barrymore asked. Bertinelli quickly replied, “Children.” And Brown agreed, explaining how passionate the participants are.

“When I was 10 and 12, I wasn’t worried about baking,” Brown said.

“When I was 12, you don’t want to know what I was doing,” Barrymore joked between bites of a fish taco.

Brown shared clips and photos from her appearance on Instagram. In the caption, she said she “enjoyed” cooking with “Drew and the crew.” In addition, Brown explained that she gave Barrymore and Bertinelli special bouquets.

“My mom would always say never show up empty handed and make a lasting impression!” Brown wrote about the pink, orange and yellow flower arrangements she shared in a photo collection.

In January 2024, Bertinelli posted a video on Instagram announcing that he “won’t be looking for her back.” Children’s baking championship.

“It really hurt my feelings. It’s really bullshit,” Bertinelli said multiple times in the tape. She cited budget cuts as the reason for the dismissal.

Bertinelli explained that the episodes for the 12th season of the series were filmed in the summer of 2022. She called that time in her life – the year of her divorce from Tom Vitale – “my ultimate year of hell”.

“It really hurts that I won’t be able to go back and see everything and say, ‘Hey, I made it,'” she said.

Brown and Goldman’s first full season as co-hosts will premiere in early 2025 and during a special holiday season, Children’s baking championship: snowman icing, airs on December 2.
