Vashu Bhagnani moved to Mumbai from Kolkata in 1989 to start his own business. He started by manufacturing television parts, manufacturing clothing, etc. He later changed his field, entering architecture and eventually becoming a film producer. In 1995, Vashu Bhagnani signed Govinda and David Dhawan for Rs. Five hundred thousand each. The first film he produced was Coolie 1 starring Govinda Kapoor and Karishma Kapoor. The film became a hit and a commercial success, and Vashu started his own production company, Pooja Entertainment India Limited. After the success of Coolie No. 1, Vashu started a series of Coolie No. 1. 1″ film and released “Hero No. 1” (1997), “Biwi No. 1” (1999) and “Shaadi No. 1” (2005). In 2002, Vashu Bhagnani produced Om Jai Jagadish, a family drama. However, things did not go well and the film was not recognized by the audience and caused him huge financial losses. Vashu left filmmaking and ventured into real estate again in order to make more money.

Vashu made a comeback in 2009 with the film Kal Kissne Dekha, in which his son Jackky Bhagnani played the male lead. The film is a romantic science fiction film that received a good response from the audience in theaters.

- “Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan” was produced by Vashu Bhagnani. This was his third film and it was a huge hit in the theatres. The film is the second highest-grossing film of the year after 1997’s “Kuch Kuch Hota Hai”.
