Vicky was born on May 16, 1988 in Malad, Mumbai, India. When he was a child, he was very interested in studying, watching movies and playing cricket. Since childhood, he wanted to be an actor; although he thought people might make fun of him if he told them he wanted to be a hero. He has participated in various stage competitions since he was a child. It wasn’t until college that he thought about becoming an actor. As a sophomore in college, he went on an industrial visit to a company when he decided he couldn’t sit in front of a computer for eight hours. Then he started accompanying his father on the sets. He gained recognition for his outstanding acting skills after the release of the film Masaan (2015), in which he played the lead role of Deepak Kumar, opposite Sanjay Mishra and Lee Starring opposite Richa Chadda.

Vicky studied at Sheth Chunilal Damodardas Barfivala High School, Mumbai and received her bachelor’s degree in electronics and telecommunications engineering from the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology, Mumbai. While at school, he participated in skits, plays, costume parties and dance competitions. After graduation, he was selected as a telecommunications engineer, but he refused to pursue an acting career. Later, he joined Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Academy in Mumbai to study acting. Here is a video shot during his time at Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute, in which he plays a negative role.
He assisted noted director Anurag Kashyap in the film Gangs of Wasseypur (2012). He was also a member of Naseeruddin Shah and Manav Kaul’s troupe. He made his acting debut in 2012 in the film Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana, where he played the role of young Omi.

In 2013, director Vasan Bala cast him as the protagonist of Geek in the short film “Geek Out”. In 2015, Vicky played the main role of Banaras boy Deepak Kumar in the film Masaan directed by Neeraj Ghaywan. His performance in the film received positive reviews from critics and he won several Best Male Debut Awards such as Zee Cine Award, Screen Award, Indian International Film Academy Award and India FOI Online Award.
