Victoria tells the new Netflix documentary about Beckham that it was the most difficult period of her life and that she was the “unhappiest in her life”.

They were joined at the premiere tonight by their four children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper. Romeo’s girlfriend Mia Regan and Brooklyn’s wife Nicola Peltz were also at the screening in central London, along with a host of celebrities.

The Beckhams have always denied claims of an affair while David was playing for Real Madrid in 2003. But now they have spoken openly about the fight to save their relationship.

An emotional Victoria (49) told the documentary: “It was the most difficult period because it felt like the world was against us. Here’s the thing — we were against each other, to be completely honest.

“You know, until Madrid it sometimes seemed like we were against everyone else, but we were together, we were connected, we had each other.

“But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really seem like we had each other.

“And that’s sad. I can’t even tell you how hard it was and how it affected me. It was a nightmare.

“It was an absolute circus — and everyone loves it when the circus comes to town, right? Unless you’re in it.”

Asked if she “resent” her husband, the former Spajsica answered: “If I’m going to be completely honest, I do.” It was the unhappiest I’ve ever been in my entire life.”

Posh added that she “internalized” the trauma to support her husband in his career, adding: “It’s not that I felt unheard because I was always mindful of the focus he needed.”

The woman with whom David was accused of having an affair was not named in the four-part documentary, which is available to watch from today.

However, newspaper headlines from the time are shown, including one that reads: “Sex with Becks”.

News about the former Manchester United midfielder’s alleged affair is also being released.

Becks, 48, bristles as he describes the toll the reports have had on his beloved wife, whom he married four years earlier in 1999.

He recalled: “There were some scary stories that were hard to deal with.

“It was the first time me and Victoria had been under that kind of pressure in our marriage.”

When asked by director Fisher Stevens how the couple “survived,” he said, “Every time we woke up we felt, you know, there’s something else and you know we felt it, we both felt at that moment that we weren’t losing each other but they are drowning.

“But at the end of the day it’s our private life. There were some days where I was thinking, ‘How am I going to go to work? How am I going to go to that training ground and look like everything is fine?’ I felt physically ill every day I opened my eyes. How am I going to do this?”

David admitted he found it difficult to adjust to life in Spain after leaving his boyhood club Manchester United – and cites a Victorian stay in London at the start of his move as a factor in his loneliness.

The couple also detailed the trauma of the paparazzi intrusion and the possible effect it may have had on their first-born son, Brooklyn.

In another fascinating insight, the Posh fashion designer recalls giving birth to her third son Cruz in 2005 – and David wasn’t there because he had a celebrity photo shoot.

A newspaper clipping flashed a photo of David with glamorous A-listers Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé.

Victoria said: “I thought, ‘Seriously, I’m going to crack, I’m resting. You are kidding me?! You have a hell of a photo with Jennifer Lopez who is gorgeous and doesn’t intend to have a baby.

“So I had a c-section and I remember laying there, not feeling my best, let’s put it that way, and I remember someone showing me the front page of the newspaper, which had a beautiful picture of David between Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé, and the title was ‘What would Posh say?’

“Let me tell you what Posh would say. Posh is fucked!”

A host of stars joined the Beckhams at the premiere, including TV host James Corden, sports presenter Alex Scott and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

In the documentary, David praised his wife for putting up with his “selfishness” in his career, which included a move to the LA Galaxy in 2007.

Victoria said she loved their time in LA, while Becks admitted he struggled to cope with the standard of football at the MLS side.

The pair – clearly in love as they filmed later scenes of the doc – also describe filming earlier parts of the series as “therapy”.

Victoria smiled and said, “I got rid of a lot of pain. Someone once told me that LA is like rehab for famous people — that’s why we always see people walking around Malibu in Ugg boots and sweatpants!

“I probably didn’t realize until I started this, let’s call it, ‘therapy’, I feel calm with a lot of things that maybe in our first session (interview with Netflix) there was still a lot of pent-up anger, frustration. . . I understand that now.”
