Victoria Beckham Says Recent Beckham Docuseries Felt ‘Quite Liberating’

Victoria Beckham shares her positive experience filming the Netflix documentary series Beckham, which was published last year.

The designer, 49, said it was “quite liberating” in a new interview with Financial Times as she discussed appearing with her husband David Beckham in the series, in which the pair opened up about their relationship and family life.

“It was quite liberating,” Victoria said FT. “I was very aware that usually when I was filming, I would be controlled. But this was very much about David, so I took the approach of, ‘I’m just going to be very relaxed here.’ ”

“People show up and say, ‘We love the documentary,'” said the former Spice Girl. “Let me tell you… They were afraid to approach before.”

Victoria recalled her experience in her husband David’s documentary series.

Beckham was released on Netflix in October 2023. The four-part series follows the biographical story of David, 48, detailing the former soccer star’s career and relationship with Victoria, along with the challenges they faced as a couple.

Shortly after the documentary aired, David spoke about it during his David Beckham Fragrances Launch Party at Torrisi Restaurant in New York City on October 11.

“It hasn’t been easy and it’s been an emotional roller coaster over the last two and a half years, but I think we’ve produced something that my team can be very proud of,” he told guests at the time.

The former footballer also said it was a “great honor” to work with him Beckham director Fisher Stevens and Netflix.

Elsewhere on her Friday FT interview, Victoria admitted that she “never enjoyed watching football” but has since found a new love for the sport after attending Inter Miami FC matches in support of her husband, who co-owns the team.

“I never felt necessarily wanted [at the matches]. I’m not saying this like, poor me, but it’s never been more fun than it is now. Now, when we are in Miami, I feel wanted,” Victoria told FT. “I’m friends with the players’ families.” The designer said that she felt even more love when she watched the team play in Nashville.

The couple recounted the trials of their relationship in the series, which aired in October.

“Suddenly I found myself on the field. The club wanted pictures of the family and the trophy. And that was the first time that the club hosted a family as well,” Victoria recalled. Since Messi appeared, the energy has gone to a whole other level. It’s a completely different experience. It’s fun.”

The designer added that she was “so proud” of her husband as she praised David in his latest career move as co-owner of the football team.

“It’s unbelievable. I feel so proud of what he has done,” said Victoria. “When he went to LA all those years ago, people made fun of him. But he left knowing that this was finally what he wanted to build; really make a difference with Major League Soccer.”

“To be a part of that journey and see what he’s achieved… It’s pretty damn amazing. He actually makes things happen,” she told za FT.
