Victoria Monét Reveals Why She’s She’s No Longer Bringing Daughter Hazel, 2, to Red Carpet Events

Victoria Monét no longer plans to bring her child to any event.

On Wednesday, the singer of the song “On My Mama”, 34, spoke with ET at the Billboard Women in Music Awards, where she shared what a “disaster” it was to bring her daughter Hazel, 2, to the Grammys in February.

“The last carpet was a disaster, so I think we’ll give it a few years,” Monét told the outlet.

While her daughter does not appear in public for now, the singer said that she will still bring Hazel to the studio.

“Absolutely. She’s already nominated for a Grammy so it sounds about right, you know?” Monét added.

In February, the singer-songwriter was joined by her daughter as the duo attended the 2024 Grammy Awards with Hazel’s father and Monét’s boyfriend, John Gaines. Hazel wore a brown dress and bows in her hair, matching her mother, Monét, who wore a brown dress with a floor-length bodice.

Although Monét was thrilled to be at the Grammys, her daughter seemed less so. Hazel clutched Gaines’ back, a sad face as the family of three walked the carpet.

Earlier this fall, Hazel became the youngest person to be nominated for a Grammy after she was nominated alongside her mother for Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Hollywood,” which also features Earth, Wind & Fire. [PJ Morton’s “Good Morning” featuring Susan Carol ultimately won the award.]

Speaking to PEOPLE about the achievement in December, Monét shared how she felt when she learned that Hazel had become the youngest Grammy nominee.

“It’s a really big deal. I think it’s another full circle for me because everything was really scary during pregnancy,” Monét told PEOPLE at the time. “People were telling me how bad a career move it could be, how bad it could be for everyone.”

She added: “Pregnancy, it’s going into unknown territory and no one’s story is the same. So to see one of the scariest moments of my career turn into one of the best moments of my career is really magical. I’m honored to be recognized for it. ”
