Vidit Gujrathi was born on Monday, October 24, 1994, in Indore, Madhya Pradesh (age 26; as of 2020). His full name is Vidit Santosh Gujrati. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. He completed his education from Flawashi College, Nashik. He started coaching chess at an early age and his hard work paid off when he finished second in the U-12 category of the Asian Youth Championship in 2006.

Profession

After completing his studies, Vidit started his chess coaching career very early and won the second place in the U-12 group of the Asian Youth Championship in 2006 and was awarded the title of FIDE Master. In 2008, Vidit won the International Master title with 7 out of 13 points at the 45th National A Chess Championship in Velamal, Chennai. In the same year, he became the first Indian to win the U14 Open category of the World Youth Championship. In 2011, during the World Junior Chess Championship, Vidit won his first Grandmaster title with a score of 8 out of 11. After winning his second Grand Master title at the Nagpur International Open, Vidit clinched the final Grand Master title in the eighth edition of the tournament. In 2012, he competed in the Rose Valley Calcutta Open Grandmaster Championship. This helped him achieve the title of Grandmaster in January 2013. Over the years, Vidit has been coached by several chess masters including IM Anup Deshmukh, IM Roktim Bandopadhyay and GM Alon Greenfeld. Vidit reached a peak Elo score of 2726 in September 2020, ranking 24th in the world.

In 2018, Vidit Gujrathi competed in the Asian Championships in Makati, Philippines, with compatriots Abhijit Kunte and Lalit Babu They went out to buy water together at the stadium and were attacked by unknown assailants. Vidit posted about the incident, saying they were cornered and then attacked. They managed to escape and save themselves from the thugs. He also informed the World Chess Federation about the facilities provided to chess players. Players had to pay $150 to stay in a room with poor facilities, substandard food and substandard cleanliness.
