early life
Vijay Rawat was born and raised in Pauri, a town in the Indian state of Uttarakhand. Vijay Rawat’s family has served the Indian Army for three generations. His father, a former Chief of Staff of the Indian Army who retired in 1988, was commissioned as a member of the 11th Gurkha Rifles in 1951. Vijay Rawat’s maternal grandfather was Kishan Singh Parmar, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Uttarkashi.
Political career
Vijay Rawat started his political career in 2022 after retiring from the Indian Army. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party on January 19, 2022. Before joining the BJP, he attended a meeting with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Addressing a media conference, he said that the thoughts of his late brother Bipin Rawat were relevant to India. The People’s Party agrees. - In December 2021, Vijay Rawat’s brother Bipin Rawat and his wife Mahulika Rawat were killed along with 10 other Indian Army personnel in a helicopter accident that crashed due to bad weather conditions in Tamil Nadu, India .
- Bharat Singh Rawat was the uncle of Vijay Rawat who retired from the Indian Army as a havardar (non-commissioned officer). Harinandan is another uncle of Vijay Rawat and he is also a retired Indian Army officer.
