Vijay Sharma is an Indian politician best known for his election as the Deputy Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, serving in the Deo Sai Ministry of Vishnu along with Arun Sao. He represents the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly, representing Kawada Assembly constituency.

Vijay Sharma was born in 1973 in Kawadhar, Kabardham, Chhattisgarh (50 years old; as of 2023). In 1996, he studied for a master’s degree in physics at Pt. Ravi Shankar Shukla University, Raipur, Chhattisgarh. In 2001, he pursued his Master’s degree in Computer Applications from Madhya Pradesh Bhoi Open University, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Vijay began his political career in college. In 1989, he took charge of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad, a students’ union affiliated to the RSS. In 2004, he served as the District Collector of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha in Kabardham district. He is currently the General Secretary of the Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party and had previously served as the Chairman of the Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party. His political influence continued to grow and in 2011 he became district secretary. He served two terms as a member of the District Council. In 2016, he was appointed as the President of Chhattisgarh Yuva Morcha state.

In 2018, Vijay contested against Congress minister Mohammad Akbar in the assembly elections. However, Akbar won the seat with a huge margin of over 59,000 votes, the largest margin in that election. In 2020, Sharma started his political career as a member of Kabardham Zilla Panchayat. Before that, his wife held the same position. In the 2023 assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) selected him to contest from the Kabardham assembly seat. He won with 39,592 votes, surpassing former MLA and Congress minister Mohammad Akbar. He is already under consideration for the post of Deputy Chief Minister and will be sworn in as Second Deputy Chief Minister on December 13, 2023 at the Chief Minister’s inauguration ceremony.

In October 2021, individuals including Abhishek Singh, son of former chief minister Raman Singh, and Rajanandgaon MP Santosh Pandey were charged following clashes over religious flags in Kawadha. More than 80 people face charges. Sharma was arrested on suspicion of inciting violence but was later released on bail. According to a senior district police officer, 73 of the 82 accused have been arrested.
