Vikas Malu started his career in 1993 as a Director, managing the “Cooper Group” founded by his father in 1985. In March 2021, Vikas Malu filed a case against the Indian government in the Supreme Court to avoid paying taxes himself. He appointed some of the country’s top lawyers to challenge the Indian tax authority’s decision. Malu claimed that the Indian government should not tax his global income as he was an NRI. As per Indian law, Indian residents have to pay tax on their worldwide income, while NRIs have to pay tax on their income earned in India. However, the Indian tax authorities claimed that his stay in India for more than 120 days in the financial year 2020-21 qualifies him as an Indian resident under Section 6 of the Income Tax Act and is liable to pay tax.

In 2022, his estranged wife Saanvi Malu accused him of raping her and forcing her to marry him. She further alleged that after her marriage, Vikas Malu’s then teenage son started raping her. In an interview, she spoke about the incident and said:
I had earlier filed a complaint against Vikas Malu. First Vikas raped me and then forcibly married me. After marriage, even his son started raping me. This was completely unbearable for me and I left his home in October 2022. ”
However, Vineet Malu, son of Vikas Malu’s first wife, later filed an FIR against Saanvi Malu under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POSCO) Act.
Involved in a murder case
In March 2023, Vikas Malu was accused by his estranged wife Saanvi Malu of plotting to murder Bollywood actor Satish Kaushik. Saanvi Malu said in an interview that Vikas Malu and Satish Kaushik had an argument in Dubai on August 23, 2022, over the Rs 15 crore that Malu had borrowed from Satish Kaushik to invest in his business. She said Vikas Malu did not want to return Satish’s money as he had lost it during the COVID-19 pandemic and said he would kill him by giving him some blue pills to get out of repayment. According to some sources, after the actor’s death, some objectionable drugs were found in Malu’s farmhouse, where Holi celebrations were being held in the presence of Satish Kaushik. However, Vikas Malu denied the allegations and claimed that he only had a family relationship with Satish Kaushik and did not have any kind of business dealings with him. In an interview, he talked about it and said:
The police and the government are there and if I’m wrong then I’m ready for anything. Her accusations are false or she should come up with evidence. I have only a family relationship with Satish Kaushik and I am not involved in any business with him. ”
Later, Satish Kaushik’s wife Shashi Kaushik responded to Savi Maru’s allegations, calling them “baseless”. She said in an interview that her husband Satish Kaushik and Vikas Malu are good friends. She further revealed that according to the autopsy report, 98% of the actor’s coronary arteries were blocked and no drugs were found in his samples.

- On August 22, 2023, Malu, along with two other persons named Divya and Tasbir, were driving a speeding Rolls Royce (approximately 230 kilometers per hour). The driver of the car lost control and hit a petrol tanker on the Delhi-Mumbai-Vadodara highway. Malu, Divya and Tasbir were injured and taken to a nearby hospital. The tanker driver and cleaner died in the accident. Later, Ma Lu’s lawyer stated in an interview with the media that Ma Lu was not in the driver’s seat when the accident occurred.
