#MeToo accusations
In 2021, amid controversy over the #MeToo movement in India, Bollywood actress Elnaaz Nourouzi accused Vipul of soliciting sexual favors from her during her audition for the Hindi film Namaste England. Speaking about the incident in an interview, Elnaz said,
I met him in his office and he mentioned that we would be signing the documents in the next few days. This time, as we said goodbye, he came over to me. The distance is too close for comfort. I didn’t get the right vibe. He pecked me on the face. I did not expect. The next time we met in his office, he tried to kiss me. I stepped back and said, ‘What are you doing?’ We’re in your office! I pushed him away, affirming. But be careful not to come across as rude, because I really wanted this movie. “
She further revealed that Vipul then invited her to meet him in a hotel room to discuss the script of Namaste England. She said when she reached his room, Vipul touched her butt and tried to get closer to her. She said in an interview that she did not complain to the police against him because she was not an Indian national and she believed a police complaint would cause problems with her work visa. Later, after interrogation by the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Board (POSH), the Indian Film and Television Directors Association (IFTDA) gave Vipul a clean sheet as Elnaaz failed to cooperate with the board in providing relevant information to support his allegations.
