Viral Dune: Part Two Sandworm Popcorn Buckets Are Being Resold for Over $800 Online

AMC Theaters originally priced the memorabilia, which resembles sandworms from the sci-fi franchise, at just $24.99 plus tax

The Dune the sandworms have crawled into uncharted territory: eBay.

Dina: The second part hit the big screen last weekend, and AMC Theaters’ Viral Sandworm Popcorn Bucket — released by the company in theaters in honor of the long-awaited sequel — is already listed for sale on eBay, with prices reaching over $800!

Collection bins — which resemble Dune-iverse’s giant desert creatures, the Shai-Hulud — originally sold by AMC for $24.99 plus tax. And while most listings on the online retailer currently range from $40 to $100, there are a few that are asking far more.

The most expensive listing on eBay, as of Wednesday afternoon? $846.36 — almost 34 times the original price of the limited edition souvenir.

And while no one has yet bought the most outrageously priced buckets, they’ve retailed for over $100 since the sci-fi sequel premiered.

Since it was announced, Dune the popcorn bucket and its unique design (to grab the popcorn, you have to put your hand through the sandworm’s rubbery teeth) was almost as talked about as the sequel itself.

The bucket inspired debauchery SNL music video and tons of memes — many of which are sexual in nature.

Dina: The second part Review: Timothée Chalamet returns in a sequel that’s even better than the original

On Jimmy Kimmel Live last month, Dina: The second part cast members Zendaya, Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh and Austin Butler reacted to the viral collectible — and let’s just say they won’t be shelling out big bucks for it.

On the talk show, host Kimmel offered the bucket to Zendaya, who respectfully declined, saying, “I’m fine. Really, I’m fine.”

Chalamet accepted, jokingly pretending that the rubber creature was eating his hand, while Pugh answered in confusion. “Who did it?” she asked. “This is not right. That’s wrong.”

Recently, in an interview with The New York TimesChalamet and Dune and Dina: The second part director Denis Villeneuve weighed the viral bucket together.

“I don’t want to make stupid jokes now that I will regret tomorrow morning,” Villendeuve told the newspaper. “But I will say this. When I saw that, I said, ‘Yoooooh smoke.’ What [expletive]!?”

The director also pointed out that collecting has “created a lot of fun on the Internet.” So maybe it’s positive? It’s kind of… impressive to shape.”

Chalamet, on the other hand, wondered how the bucket’s creator feels about the attention it’s gotten, adding, “I can’t say if someone is at home right now saying, ‘My design worked perfectly and everyone’s talking about it.’ Or if someone is brutally offended by the answer.”
