Virat Singh started playing cricket at a young age. At the age of 16, he made it to the Jharkhand U-19 team and played his first-class match in the Vinu Mankad Trophy in 2014. In December of the same year, he scored his first-class century against Kerala.
During his cricket career, he has represented Jharkhand, East Zone, India U19, India U23 and India C.
IPL Career
Due to his performances at the domestic level, he was signed by Surisers Hyderabad for INR 1.9 crore as against his base price of INR 20 lakhs and he will make his Indian Premier League debut in the 2020 edition of the league.
Facts and Trivia
- When Virat was in fifth grade, he did poorly in his exams; his father, Vinod Singh, angrily collected his bat and locked it in the storeroom. Later, Virat’s coach, V. Venkataram, came to his house and talked to his father. “Your son is very talented, leave him to me,” the coach said. Just two years later, Virat started playing at the district level and performed well enough to be selected for the Jharkhand Under-16 team.
- The left-handed player played for Jharkhand’s under-16 team at the age of 13 under the coaching of his elder brother Vishal.
- Virat and his brothers used to practice cricket on the lawn of their home. Virat’s father, fed up with the smashed windows at home, decided to enroll his sons in a cricket academy opened in Jharkhand.
