He has been a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for over three decades and is considered a popular tribal leader in Chhattisgarh. In 2023, he became the chief minister of Chhattisgarh.

Vishnu Deo Sai aka Vishnudev Sai was born on Friday, 21 February 1964 (age 59; as of 2023) in Bagiya village, Kansabel tehsil, Jashpur district, Chhattisgarh state, India (then in Madhya Pradesh). His zodiac sign is Pisces. In 1981, he completed his education till 11th grade from Loyola High School in Kunkuri, Jashpur. Later, he entered politics.

Vishnu Deo Sai started his political journey in the 1980s by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and won the Sarpanch election unopposed from his village Bagia . In 1990, he won the Tapkara legislative constituency in Madhya Pradesh and became a provincial assembly member for the first time. In 1993, he again won the Madhya Pradesh legislative elections from Tapkara constituency. After winning the 2023 Chhattisgarh legislative elections, he became the MLA from Kunkuri constituency. .

He again won the 14th Lok Sabha election in 2004, the 15th Lok Sabha election in 2009 and the 16th Lok Sabha election in 2014 from Raigarh constituency in Chhattisgarh. In the 2019 general elections, he did not win the seat from Raigarh constituency.

Vishnu Deo Sai was appointed Union Minister of State in the Ministries of Mines, Steel and Labor and Employment on May 27, 2014 during the Narendra Modi Cabinet and was relieved of the post of Labor and Employment on November 9, 2014 Ministry position and continue to retain the position. Federal Minister of State for Mines and Steel until 5 July 2016. He has been the Federal Minister of State for Steel since July 5, 2016.

Role in the Bharatiya Janata Party
Vishnu Deo Sai served as the leader of the Chhattisgarh Bharatiya Janata Party from 2006 to 2010, 2013 to 2016 and 2020 to 2022.
He led the BJP to form the government twice in Chhattisgarh under the leadership of three-time Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh. In December 2022, he became a member of the National Working Committee of the Bharatiya Janata Party. In 2023, he was appointed as the Chief Minister (CM) of Chhattisgarh.

Threaten government officials
In August 2022, a video went viral in which Vishnu Deo Sai was seen talking to a person on the phone and threatening to bury him alive after beheading him. He was also seen hurling other insults at the man. It was later reported that the person was an official from the Chhattisgarh Renewable Energy Development Authority (CREDA) named Sandeep Banjare. A few days ago, CREDA officials allegedly removed the statue of India’s tenth Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to install high pole lights. The statue was installed at the Atal Chowk in Saraitoli village in Kunkuri tehsil of Jashpur district. Sai was later criticized for the insult and apologized for his remarks.
