Parents and siblings
His father, Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan, was a famous tabla player. His mother’s name was Razina Khan. His grandfather was Ustad Abdul Latif Khan and his maternal grandfather was Padma Shri recipient Ustad Fayyaz Ahmed Khan. His uncle was Tansen Award winner Niaz Ahmed Khan.
His elder brother Sajid Khan is also a music director.

Sajid-Wajid made their debut as music directors with the Bollywood song “Teri Jawani” from the film Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998); starring Salman Khan and Kajol. The duo came to the limelight with Sonu Nigam’s music album Deewana (1999), in which they composed music for the songs “Deewaana Tera”, “Ab Mujhe Raat Din” and “Iss Kadar Pyaar Hai”.
Sajid-Wajid composed music for several albums such as “Khoya Khoya Chand” (2001) and “Tera Intezar” (2005). Wajid and his brother Sajid composed music for several films including “Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai” (2002), “Gunaah” (2002), “Chori Chori” (2003), “Killer” (2006), “Shaadi Karke Phas” “Gaya Yaar” (2006), “Jaane Hoga Kya” (2006) and “Weird Ali” (2016).
He is also a singer and has lent his voice to several songs in Bollywood films like Wanted (2009), Overlord (2010), Ek Tha Tiger (2012), Grand Masti (2013) and Satyameva Jayate (2018). Sajid-Wajid is one of the favourite music directors of the ‘Bollywood Brothers’ Salman Khan. Sajid-Wajid composed music for many of Salman Khan’s films including Tumko Na Bhool Paayenge (2002), Tere Naam (2003), Garv (2004), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), Partner (2007), Hello (2008), God Tussi Great Ho (2008), Wanted (2009), Main Aur Mrs Khanna (2009), Veer (2010), Dabangg (2010), Dabangg 2 (2012) and Dabangg 3 (2019). Some of Sajid-Wajid’s popular Bollywood songs include “Soni De Nakhre” (Partner, 2007), “Jalwa” (Wanted, 2009), “Surili Akhhiyon Wale” (Veer, 2010) and “Muni Badnam Hui” (Dabangg, 2010).
Sajid-Wajid has written lyrics for many Bollywood songs such as Jee Le (Aag, 2007), Le Le Mazaa Le (Wanted, 2009) and Fevicol Se (Dabangg 2, 2012). Sajid-Wajid has composed background music for several Hindi films including Welcome (2007), Bullett Raja (2013) and Daddy (2017). Sajid and Wajid have served as mentors on the singing reality TV shows Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar (2010) and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa (2012).
In 2011, Wajid sang the IPL 4 theme song “Dhoom Dhoom Dhoom Dhadaka”.
The duo composed tracks for television shows such as Dus Ka Dum (2008), Bigg Boss 4 (2010) and Bigg Boss 6 (2012). During the 2020 lockdown, Sajid-Wajid composed Salman Khan’s lockdown songs Bhai Bhai and Pyaar Karona. Bhai Bhai was the last song composed by Wajid Khan.

Wajid Khan passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020. A few days before his death, he was admitted to Surana Hospital in Chembur, Mumbai. In an interview, Salim Merchant, a famous Indian music composer, said,
He has multiple issues. He has kidney issues and had a transplant not too long ago. But recently he learned that he has a kidney infection… He has been on a ventilator for the past four days after it started to get worse. The kidney infection was the beginning, and then it became critical.”
Earlier, he had undergone a kidney transplant and suffered from a kidney infection. Later, he tested positive for COVID-19. He suffered a cardiac arrest, which led to his death. Many Bollywood celebrities expressed their condolences on his death and tweeted:

His body was buried at Versova Kabrastan in Mumbai; next to the grave of late Irrfan Khan, who passed away on April 29, 2020 after a long battle with cancer. His funeral was attended by several people, including Aditya Pancholi, Sajid Khan, and Wajid Khan’s wife and children.
