Walmart has unveiled its new logo — which has sparked a variety of reactions online.
The retailer announced the change – comprising a new font, image and color palette – on Monday 13 January, and as part of what it described as a “comprehensive brand refresh”.
The brand said its “wordmark,” a graphic design term for the word “Walmart,” was “inspired by Sam Walton’s classic trucker hat” and consists of “a modern, custom font that differentiates Walmart from the crowd,” according to its website.
Meanwhile, its spark image (a yellow burst shape) “exudes the energy” of the company and “remains a beacon that guides customers through all aspects of the Walmart experience,” according to the site. The company also noted that it chose the “True Blue and Spark Yellow” colors, as it “leans” into the retailer’s “most recognizable tones.”

In response to the refresh, some people expressed their approval of the brand’s design, including one person on Xu, who wrote: “Personally, I think it’s great that they didn’t do much and kept the iconic logo and its signature branding. Much better than the last big rebrand…”
But not everyone was impressed on social media, as several people called out that they are close to the same one they grew up with.
Some have joked about how much they think the rebrand costs even though it doesn’t look drastically different. One person wrote on X: “I need to know how much it costs to ‘redesign’ the Walmart logo 🙃🤣.”
Another person joked to Xu: “I can’t believe someone paid for this.”

A third post echoed the sentiments writing, “me when Walmart rebrands their logo to look exactly the same,” along with a gif of a man saying “oh no whatever…”
One commenter got straight to the point in his X post, writing, “looks the f—- same.”
Walmart has not yet responded to the backlash on social media. However, he noted that the new imagery will be slowly rolled out in January “across various channels and customer touchpoints” and the stores will be “redesigned over time.”
