Watch moment Eurovision winner SMASHES trophy seconds after Graham Norton warning

EUROVISION winner Nemo has been called out for an epic fail just moments after winning the trophy in the singing show.

The singer, who triumphed with the operatic song The Code, took victory to Switzerland in a contest that proved highly controversial.

After receiving the huge glass trophy, Nemo enthusiastically went on stage, instantly hitting the hard floor of the stage.

In BBC commentary broadcast across the UK, presenter Graham Norton, 61, could be heard saying: “Don’t break the trophy!

“There is a trophy – here they are!

“The winner of the 68th Eurovision Song Contest representing Switzerland, kudos to them.”

The bottom of the huge vase-shaped trophy could be seen ripped off and lying on the floor as Nemo, the first non-binary Eurovision winner, got up and walked around the rest of the stage.

The singer appeared to be oblivious to the accident as he enjoyed the adoration of the crowd in Malmo, Sweden.

However, fans were well aware – and flooded social media with their comments about the star – who took to the moving stage in a fluffy red coat.

One joked: “Final step, break the trophy.”

Another said: “Don’t break the trophy Graham says….and then he did it,” while a third commented: “Nemo became the first winner to break the trophy live, right after winning.”

One excited viewer then said: “LMAO #NO YOU CAN’T HEAR THE CRACK WHEN THEY BREAK THEIR TROPHY.”

Another mused: “Don’t break the trophy ‘smash’ he broke the trophy.”

The fan then mused: “Nemo: ‘love, peace, dignity for every person in this world.’

“Also Nemo: Accidentally smashes the trophy three minutes later. If you needed a more apt metaphor for #Eurovision2024, good luck finding it.”

The song was about the performers coming to terms with not being binary, and consequently embracing their identity.

Nemo secured victory for Switzerland with a total of 591 points, while the first Croatia sneaked into second place.

Applause back

Nemo couldn’t help but give a somewhat pointed speech as they received the glass trophy from former winner Loreen, amidst the conflict in Israel and Gaza.

The Sun exclusively reported earlier in the night that the two-time Eurovision winner refused to hand over the trophy if Israeli actress Eden Golan won.

Ahead of the finale, a source told us: “She intends to clarify her stance on Israel over her carefully choreographed and graceful trophy handover that will show the world which side of history she really stands on.

“There is a plan for Loreen to step on stage, leave the trophy on the podium and leave before the hosts welcome Israel to the stage, should they win the coveted title.”

However, at Nemo’s final victory, they received the trophy from the Euphoria hitmaker and said: “Thank you so much.

“I hope that this competition can fulfill its promise and continue to stand for peace and dignity for every person in this world.”

A political point

Over the weekend, the site saw a large amount of protest activity, with pro-Palestinian crowds attempting to invade the site.

Climate activist Greta Thunberg was among those detained by the authorities while Israeli singer Eden Golan was performing at the Malmo Arena.

A mob of 20,000 pro-Palestinian supporters took to the streets of Malmo ahead of the Eurovision Song Contest final as tensions over Israel’s inclusion reached boiling point.

Everything you need to know about Eurovision

Here’s your complete guide to all things Eurovision:

The march was prompted by Israel’s conflict in Gaza with an Israeli actress, Eden, previously forced to stay in her hotel room until it was time to go on stage.

In another sign of political protests, the entries for Ireland, Switzerland and Greece also refused to take part in the flag parade during the final rehearsal.

French entry Slimane also paused his performance to give a speech promoting peace.

He said: “When I was a child, I dreamed of music, I dreamed of that dream of being a singer and singing peace.

“We must be united by music, yes, but by love and peace.”

But that was not the only drama, as the Dutch performance was “withdrawn from rehearsal” on Friday.

Yesterday, Joost Klein was subsequently kicked out of the competition entirely as the cops “investigated a complaint from a female crew member.”

Oh Ol

Meanwhile, it wasn’t a good Eurovision night for Britain’s Olly Alexander.

Earlier in the day, Olly, 33, released a teaser hinting that his track Dizzy had gone down very well during the judges’ performance the night before.

However, he ended up on the right side of the rankings after zero public votes.

Following his performance of the upbeat song Dizzy, British fans were left furious after claiming Olly Alexander had been “sabotaged”.

Fans watching the BBC broadcast noted that the sound quality may not have been up to par, and at one point Olly was seen touching his earpiece.

It came after he opened up about his embarrassing mistake at Eurovision during the semi-finals, where a similar mishap occurred.

Then he said: “Eurovision news! There was a semi-final last night. I performed, it was good. My microphone fell out halfway through the performance so I had to grab it and it just threw me off,” he said.

“I was just worried. There were elements of the routine that I couldn’t do as well as I would have liked.

“I was pretty stressed that my backpack was just going to fall off completely and my lugs would… whatever. It doesn’t matter,” he said, shaking his head.

“It’s the thrill of live music, live television, anything can happen.”
