Lyle’s Golden Syrup Weetabix hit shelves in April 2022 but has now been pulled just two years later.

Shoppers were left saddened after noticing they were off the shelves.

USED WEETABIX FANS

Hundreds of fans responded to a post on one Facebook group, where Weetabix confirmed to a customer that the cereal was no longer being produced.

One said it “was the best” and another said it “explains why I can’t find it anywhere”, adding that they were “heartbroken”.

A third person commented: “My son was floored, he loved this.”

Posting on X, another said: “No mate, I’m honestly mad that Weetabix stopped making the Golden Syrup version.

“I have them mixed in with normal every day.”

Another complained: “Can I get Golden Syrup Weetabix somewhere now?

“This is the second time they have disappeared from the shelves and I am here.

“Every morning I drank a mixture of two normal and two Golden Syrups – the perfect combination and now they are gone.”

Customers on Facebook said you can recreate the taste by adding Lyle’s Golden Syrup to the original Weetabix.

The company discontinued Golden Syrup Weetabix this summer, but it is still available for purchase in some locations as it may take some time to deplete the remaining stock.

Ocado is selling a pack of 24 for £3.70, although you’ll pay delivery on top of that. Amazon sells a pack of the same size for around £17.

Why were products left out or recipes changed?

ANALYSIS by Chief Consumer Reporter James Flanders:

MANUFACTURERS are constantly tweaking, adding or removing products based on customer demand.

They often say that this is due to the changing tastes of customers.

But there are a number of reasons why this also happens.

For example, government regulations, such as the “sugar tax”, force companies to change their recipes and reduce the sugar content.

Some manufacturers may choose to adjust ingredients to reduce costs, especially as they struggle with rising prices due to high inflation.

For example, Tango Cherry disappeared from the shelves in 2018.

It recently returned after a six-year absence, but as a sugar-free version.

Fanta removed the sweetener from its sugar-free alternative earlier this year.

The original 24 flavor pack costs from £3.25 in a number of major supermarkets including Morrisons, Asda and Tesco.

Weetabix with Lyle’s Golden Syrup has 157 calories per two-biscuit serving, while the traditional flavor has 136 calories for the same size serving.

It is not the first time in recent months that customers have been left disappointed after learning that their favorite cereal has been banned.

Last month, Kellogg’s confirmed it had discontinued Coco Pops Rocks leaving customers gutted.

One online user said: “Plssss bring them back. You will pay well.”

Another commented “I miss Coco Pops Rocks”, while a third added “bring back Coco Pops Rocks”.

It comes just days after The Sun revealed that Kellogg’s has discontinued All Bran Golden Crunch.

Retailers and manufacturers regularly pull products from shelves if there is little demand to keep up with trends or push new products instead.

In other retail news, Home Bargains has confirmed it will close its branches for three days over the festive period.

Plus, Aldi’s sold-out winter heat-avoidance gadget is back on shelves in a few days.
