“I have no idea how much this cost her, but it’s a lot of money,” he tells PEOPLE
Wells Adams was the “One Tree Guy” at Christmas. That was before he met Sarah Hyland.
“My wife is a crazy person,” he said Bachelor in Paradise star, 39, jokes to PEOPLE. “I don’t turn on the lights in my house. We live in Los Angeles, so we have a studio lighting company that comes and sets up our house. …I have no idea how much it costs, but it’s a lot of money. We have a giant team coming in and then she’s in charge of the interior.”
The holiday venture continues in the interior as well. “We don’t have one tree, we don’t have two trees, we have three trees,” Wells adds. “We have an ornate tree that is in one room. Then we have one tree that only has food decorations in the dining room. And then we have another tree in the living room or family room. So it looks like Santa came and just sprayed everything.”
Adams, who hosted the Cocktail Collection holiday party with colleagues BiP alum Joe Amabile, also talked about hosting holiday gatherings — and Hyland’s tendency to overcommit to making side dishes.
“She’ll say, OK, I’m going to make a mix of mixed vegetables and mashed potatoes, and she likes 17 things,” Adams says of Modern family star, 33. “And then in the end it happens that she only does three, and then I have to do the rest. And I wonder, why were we trying to do so much? Also, nobody eats any of the food anyway. All you need is a good charcuterie board, good drinks and good company. And good music.”

For that, he can count on Daniel Ellsworth, one of his “oldest friends” from the time he lived in Nashville. After Sarah and Dan start drinking cocktails (an espresso martini for Sarah and an old fashioned for Dan), the party begins.
“Dan sits down at the piano and they start singing performances,” he says. “There will definitely be a performance of ‘Suddenly Seymour’. Something from Lease it will be dangerous. And that’s always good. A late-night sing-a-long, ‘Piano Man’ is sure to be over.”
Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams Relationship Timeline
Adams admits to joining in, adding, “I’ll go get a guitar and I’ll be like, ‘I’m going to do this song,’ and it’s very embarrassing.”
Hyland and Adams married last year, after meeting on social media in 2017.
In August, the couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary with posts they shared on their Instagram accounts.

“One year married to you flew by in the blink of an eye. You are my HUSBAND. My best friend. My true north,” Hyland wrote alongside a photo of herself and Adams from their wedding day. “I love you more than words can say and every day is the best day when I’m with you. Marriage is the most fun I’ve ever had because I’m married to you 💋.”
Wells shared a photo of the couple exchanging vows, with the actress making a silly face.
