Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was originally a standalone story. Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a prequel story, even though when it was first conceived, it wasn’t even meant to be part of the main canonical Jujutsu Kaisen story! Author Gege Akutami decided to make it canon only after writing one clip.
Gojo has a sweet tooth. Although it is usually forgotten (or not well known), Gojo developed a love for sweets after eating more sugary foods to try to sharpen his mind.
Gojo is also very fond of Digimon. Gojo actually quotes Digimon in the Gojo’s Past port—and author Gege Akutami has also publicly said that Gojo is a huge Digimon fan.
Nobara dyes her hair a lighter shade of brown. That’s right: her hair is actually dark brown, but for unknown reasons she dyes it a lighter brown color in the series.
Sukuna’s fingers have “taste”. The King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna, becomes trapped in Yuji’s body at the beginning of the story, after which Yuji has a mission to find and eat all of Sukuna’s fingers so they can be destroyed—and author Gege Akutami confirmed that, oddly enough, Sukuna’s fingers taste like soap.
Nanami was originally a villain. Although he becomes Yuji’s mentor in the series, Akutami revealed that Nanami was one of the first characters conceived—and that he was initially meant to be the villain.
Nanami’s heritage is revealed. He’s one of the few characters with blonde hair, and as it turns out, Akutami has a reason for that! Nanami is of European (more specifically Danish) descent from her maternal grandmother.
Megumi loves her shikigami. In the series, Megumi is a super serious, stoic sorceress capable of summoning shikigami (monstrous animal-like creatures) into battle — but once they’re killed, they can’t come back. Akutami confirmed that Megumi cares for her shikigami and mourns them when they die, revealing a softer side to Megumi than fans usually see.
Hanami speaks backwards. In order to make Hanami sound the way he does in Jujutsu Kaisen, his voice actor (Atsuko Tanaka) speaks the lines in Japanese—and then plays them backwards.
