Arielle Carver O’Neill’s character, Brandy Barr Williams, was at the center of some of the biggest plot twists in Ash Vs. Evil Dead. Since the show’s untimely end in 2018, fans of O’Neill might wonder what she has gotten up to since filming for season three wrapped up.
O’Neill played Brandy, lead character Ash’s (Bruce Campbell) long-lost daughter. The Ash Vs Evil Dead television series came as a delightful surprise to fans of the original movies, leaning into more comedic elements without straying from the horror. While both Campbell and director Sam Raimi were veterans of the franchise by the time the television show came out, set 30 years after the events of The Evil Dead, Ash Vs Evil Dead served as O’Neill’s debut into the horror genre. Ash Vs. Evil Dead is a benevolent combination of crowd-pleasing and critically acclaimed, earning a 99% score on Rotten Tomatoes with an average audience score of 95%.
O’Neill has been in the acting scene since 2011, when she snagged a one-time role on Australian soap opera Neighbors. After that, she appeared in a handful of short films and television shows. Throughout 2014, O’Neill played characters on mockumentary Suburbs, comedy Worst Year Of My Life, Again!, and drama House Husbands. Her appearance on Ash Vs. Evil Dead was by far her longest-lasting and most prominent role.
What Arielle Carver O’Neill Has Done Since Ash Vs. Evil Dead Ended
Since Ash Vs. Evil Dead’s series finale, “The Mettle Of Man”, aired in April 2018, O’Neill’s participation in the acting scene has been minimal. In fact, her only acting credit since 2018 is in a 2020 short film titled Hookers And Blow. A comedy short, Hookers And Blow follows the interaction between two sex workers who bicker over the rights to a specific street corner. O’Neill’s Chanel arrives to work to find Tiffany (Georgie Jennings) trying to take what’s been historically hers. Their interaction is silly and snappy.
After three seasons of putting on an American accent, the short gives O’Neill an opportunity to return to her natural Australian inflection. Hookers And Blow, which came out January 31st, was directed by actress-director Brydi Frances. Frances has been in the short film scene since 2014. Brydi graduated with a Bachelors degree in film at SAE Institute Australia, Melbourne this year. Considering SAE Institute is listed as the film company, it is possible O’Neill was participating in Brydi’s thesis project.
O’Neill is not particularly prominent on social media, but she does update her Instagram regularly enough to show that she has spent the last couple years celebrating holidays with friends and championing the success of those closest to her. Most recently, her significant other, Christian Charisiou, starred in the Hayes Theatre production of musical Cry-Baby. Ash Vs. Evil Dead was Arielle Carver O’Neill’s first foray into horror, both as an actress and as a member of the audience. She has said in interviews how much she has come to love the genre, so it is very possible the coming years hold future horror endeavors for the actress.
