Our facial expressions tell those around us a lot about what we are thinking or feeling. “Furrowed brows”, or when one’s eyebrows are drawn together, is just one of many such expressions, and is usually made when we are feeling a number of negative emotions. We’ll tell you more about this common expression, the possible meanings behind it, and how to prevent wrinkles if you think you’re doing it a little too much.

  • “Wrinkled brows” refers to a facial expression in which someone gathers their eyebrows together to create wrinkles between them.
  • People frown when they experience negative emotions, such as anger, sadness, confusion, pain, disapproval, or fear.
  • Prevent permanent wrinkles by relaxing your face, staying hydrated and wearing sunscreen when you go outside.
  1. Step 1 Relax your forehead when you feel that your eyebrows are drawn together.

For some people, furrowed brows become more of a habit than an occasional emotional reaction. If you notice that your brows are wrinkled, take a moment to relax your forehead.[7]
You can also practice some breathing exercises to calm yourself down.

    • Nevertheless, furrowed eyebrows are a natural expression and emotional reaction. Don’t worry too much about them if they are actually the result of negative emotions. They are natural!
  2. Wear hats or use sunscreen when in the sun. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sun is the leading cause of wrinkles, as UV rays break down the collagen in your skin over time, causing it to weaken prematurely. If you go outside, wear a hat with a brim or apply an SPF 30+ sunscreen.[8]

  3. Drink plenty of water and hydrate your skin. Your skin needs a lot of water to stay healthy, hydrated and plump.[9]
To stay hydrated, experts recommend that men drink about 15.5 cups (3.7 L) of water a day, and women 11.5 (2.7 L) a day.[10]

    • Also, use a facial moisturizer every morning to give your skin much-needed direct hydration.
    • Vitamin A and C supplements can also provide vital nutrients that prevent and eliminate wrinkles.
  4. Step 4 Talk to a health care provider for professional treatment.

Wrinkles are completely natural and do not need to be “treated”. But if you’re concerned, your doctor may prescribe over-the-counter anti-wrinkle creams or procedures like dermabrasion (scraping off layers of skin) or laser resurfacing.[11]

    • Patients can also get facial fillers to remove deep wrinkles or even opt for facelift surgery.
