After almost two years of break, the second part Yellowstone season 5 will premiere on Sunday, November 10 — and there are a lot of loose ends to tie up.

In Season 5, the first installment of Paramount Network’s hit series created by Taylor Sheridan, John Dutton (Kevin Coster) is elected governor of Montana and vows to protect the country rather than allow outsiders to turn their state into a tourist destination. Meanwhile, Attorney General Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) is eager to become governor and files articles of impeachment against his father.

Jamie’s declaration of war on his own family infuriates Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and she suggests to John that her brother visit “the train station”. Meanwhile, Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) and Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) try to find a way forward after losing their son John Jr.

Fans can’t wait to find out how Yellowstone the drama will resolve itself without Costner, who exited the show after Part 1. While talking to The Hollywood Reporter in November 2024, director Christina Voros noted the fact that “John Dutton is still central” to the story.

The road to reconciliation seems closed for Jamie and Beth, especially after she finds out he has a son.

The revelation infuriates Beth, believing that Jamie is the reason she can’t have biological children. (In Season 3, viewers learn that Jamie took Beth to an abortion clinic when they were teenagers, where the procedure was performed, and also agreed to be sterilized without her consent.)

“I’m going to take it from you. I’m going to take away your paternity, Jamie,” Beth said.

Beth’s hatred of Jamie is further fueled when he moves to impeach Patriarch Dutton over his quest to become governor of Montana. When the siblings clash violently in the final episode of Season 5, Beth declares war on Jamie, who is ready to see him go to the train station.

After being arrested at a protest, Summer Higgins (Piper Perabo) is pardoned and released from prison by John during Yellowstone season 5, episode 1. Summer then moves into the Dutton residence, where she and John continue their romance.

The sight of them together sends Beth into a tizzy, but it only gets worse when Summer, who is vegan, criticizes the family’s dinner of venison, duck and pigeon. Beth suggests that the couple “take a walk”, which results in an all-out brawl between the women.

Surprisingly, they end up agreeing to try to respect each other.

Ivan’s first act as governor in Yellowstone season 5 signed an executive order ending government funding and revoking permits for the Market Equities Paradise Valley airport and ski resort projects.

In addition, he used his power as governor to place his land in protective custody—effectively preventing Market Equities from pursuing their construction plans or winning a potential lawsuit.

John also showed support for Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and those on the Indian reservation when he publicly opposed the federal pipeline project.

IN Yellowstone season 5 episode 1 Market Equities brings in corporate shark Sarah Atwood (Dawn Olivieri). She notices Jamie’s vulnerability as the black sheep of the Dutton family and begins a romantic relationship with him.

Over the course of several episodes, she successfully convinces Jamie to file articles of impeachment against his father, and together they plan to kill John and Beth.

At the beginning Yellowstone season 5 episode 1 Kayce tries to give up her cattle commissioner badge. He was at work when the pregnant Monica started to go into labor and decided to take herself to the hospital. In an unusual accident, she was hit by a buffalo, and her boy did not survive the birth.

Monica eventually convinces Kayce to keep his job and encourages him to stop blaming himself for what happened to their family. She also decides to take John up on his offer to live permanently on the ranch—far from their home on the Indian reservation that reminds her of the life she and Kayce almost had.
