The Timbuktu Triangle comprises four LGAs in Borno State and one in Yobe State, known as a stronghold of Boko Haram and ISWAP.

Kiriku was responsible for leading multiple attacks and ambushes against Operation Hadin Kai troops in Borno.

Reports confirm that Kiriku was bitten by a venomous snake in Sambisa forest, located in Borno state.

The circumstances of the snakebite incident are still unclear.

Security forces are closely monitoring the situation, looking for potential opportunities to exploit weaknesses within the organization’s ranks.

According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency expert specializing in the Lake Chad region, Kiriku died three days after being bitten by a snake.
