Rachel Zegler weighs in on theories about Lucy Gray Baird’s fate The Hunger Games: Song of the Snake. The film is adapted from Susan Collin’s novel of the same name and is a prequel to the original work. Hungry Games The trilogy follows young Coriolanus Snow (played by Tom Bryce) as he first encounters the Capitol and the Olympics while directing District 12’s tribute to Baird (Ziegler). Like the book, though, the movie ends with some unanswered questions, including Baird’s fate, as the distrust between her and Snow led Baird to shoot her as she escaped, although her body was removed from the Undetected.
during an interview Harper’s BazaarZiegler address Birds and Snakes Ballad‘ Ambiguous ending. The star was particularly concerned about Lucy’s ultimate fate, saying she believed the District 12 tribute was “freeBy the end of the film, she hopes Collins will provide more concrete answers in the future. Check out Ziegler’s statement below:
Lucy Gray’s main goal throughout the film is survival. She survived tribute from her companions, survived Snow, and survived herself. At some point I think she realizes she’s going in the wrong direction, and we see her flinch a little bit when Coriolanus touches her chin…those are moments of clarity. It was in these moments that she woke up from her performance and realized it was a matter of life and death. I always think about what will happen to my character when the audience sees the end credits. Speaking of Lucy Grey, I like to think of her as free. I hope I get to hear this from Susan one day, though.
Whatever happened to Lucy Gray Baird?
Unfortunately, no one really knows what happened after Baird Birds and Snakes Ballad. Collins has never fully answered the question of her fate, but that hasn’t stopped theories from popping up. One of the most common theories, contrary to Ziegler’s, is that it’s possible that Snow did succeed in killing Baird, which is why no trace of her seems to have ever been found. Although Snow thought she heard Lucy singing, it’s possible that nearby Jabberjays imitated her singing after her death. She was possibly fatally wounded but managed to find a hiding place before succumbing to her injuries.
Baird’s death would make things less complicated, as it would explain how she evaded discovery by Snow and the powerful Capitol. However, others agreed with Ziegler that she survived, and the actor made a good point that the entire story is about how Baird became a survivor and overcame great odds to win the Hungry Games. From this point of view, it was impossible for her to get out so easily. Still, it raises the question: where did she go after escaping Snow? Song of Birds and Snakes.
Songs of Birds and Snakes Director Francis Lawrence also seemed to agree with Ziegler’s theory that Baird survived, suggesting she may have had a close relationship with Hungry Games Trilogy.
There are some theories that she escaped and made her way to District 13, which exists in secret due to a peace treaty with the Capitol. One theory even suggests that she may have been married in District 13 and was the mother of President Coyne, who seemed to have a personal vendetta against Snow. Another theory is that she is Katniss’s grandmother, although Maud Ivory is more likely to be the link between Covey and Katniss. It’s unclear whether Baird is Songs of Birds and Snakesbut maybe the audience isn’t supposed to know that so she can always keep Snow free.
