The accident happened on March 4, and Andrews luckily managed to save his life, although he suffered serious injuries. He suffered broken bones, a torn ligament, as well as bruises and scratches from the crash.
His fiancee, Wendy, shared the news on Saturday, revealing that Andrews had been transferred to a brain rehabilitation facility in Fiona Stanley. Despite being extremely tired and in pain during the transfer, Andrews settled into a new facility that offers a calmer environment compared to the trauma unit. Wendy also mentioned that the larger bed at the rehab facility was better suited to Andrews’ tall stature.
Wendy previously expressed how lucky Andrews was to have survived the accident in a March 15 post. The veteran truck driver has been in the hospital for more than two weeks, receiving treatment for his serious injuries. Wendy emphasized that his recovery and rehabilitation process will be slow and lengthy.
She assured Andrews’ fans that she would take excellent care of him when he was able to return home. Wendy admitted that the situation was stressful, but she wanted to update everyone on where Andrews was and how he was doing.
This incident is not the first accident Andrews has encountered recently. In December, he was flown to the hospital after a jet-ski accident. Despite these challenges, Andrews’ four decades of trucking experience earned him a spot on the popular television series Outback Truckers, where he became a fan favorite with his signature purple Phantom truck decorated with superhero comic book characters.

The accident happened on March 4, just around the corner from Sludge’s house as he headed out to dinner with his 16-year-old son Shaun, who was trailing behind him on a scooter. Sludge suffered significant injuries, including a head injury with bleeding on the brain, a fractured forehead and eye socket, as well as multiple broken ribs, broken bones, torn ligaments, broken cheekbones and extensive bruising and scratches.
Sludge’s fiancee, Wendy, said he was unconscious for about five minutes after the crash and had no recollection of the incident. The head trauma was the most challenging aspect of his recovery, but the bleeding has now stopped and he is expected to make a full recovery without the need for surgery.
Over the past two weeks, Sludge has experienced excruciating pain, leading to extended periods of sleep. External cosmetic injuries, such as bruises and bruises, heal gradually, but internal injuries require more time to recover. Wendy mentioned that Sludge is determined and resilient, but the process will be long and slow.

Paul “Sludge” Andrews, a well-known personality from the TV show Outback Truckers, has an interesting background and passion for the trucking industry. He was born and raised in Freshford, NZ, where his parents founded Andrews Transport, a successful transport company. Later, the family moved to a station in Waikia, NZ, and Sludge enjoyed a happy childhood, dividing his time between the farm and the company.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck during Sludge’s early teenage years. He experienced the loss of his brother in a car accident, and a year later, the death of his father in a car accident. These heartbreaking events had a profound impact on Sludge’s life.
Looking for new opportunities, Sludge left New Zealand and ventured to Australia. He stayed with family and friends and continued his passion for motocross championships. Although he eventually returned to New Zealand, he later returned to Australia, where he has lived ever since.
Sludge entered the trucking industry as soon as he got his license to drive a truck. He was mentored by Derek Murray, who previously worked for Sludge’s parents. After working with Derek at Narrogin for a while, Sludge set up his own company called Paul Andrews Transport. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, he has worked tirelessly and gained extensive knowledge handling a wide variety of cargo across Australia.
About 11 years ago, Sludge took on the responsibility of delivering oil and fuel across North and South West Australia. This occupation remains a significant part of his work to this day.
Sludge’s journey with Outback Truckers began when a friend nominated him to perform. He was hesitant at first, but eventually decided to give it a try in Season 3. Since then, he has become a beloved regular on the show and is currently involved in the filming of Season 9, exciting fans with new adventures.
