What happened to YNW Melly?
Currently, the US rapper YNW Melly is facing two charges of First-degree murder. Although the rapper has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him during the trial. The charges against him are related to the incident that happened in 2019. In addition, he also has been accused of disrespecting one of the victim’s mothers during his trial. YNW Melly aka Jamell Maurice Demons’s attorney is David Howard who is representing him during the trial. HITC stated that David Howard argued on June 12 and called the investigation by the state police incompetent and incomplete. While the state prosecutors opposed the defense by saying the shooting took place as gang action but the defense said the motive lacks credibility as the victims and the accused were close friends. While the investigators alleged that they recovered evidence that proved the US rapper fatally shot his close friend Christopher Thomas Jr and Anthony Williams. The process for the selection of a 12-person jury took two months which has been four years in the making. The state police claimed that YNW Melly fatally shot his friends and staged the murder to look like a drive-by shooting incident. He was 19 years of age at the time of his friends’s murder and he was enjoying the early days of his career as he had collaborated with Kanye West on the song Mixed Personalities. People across the United States recognize YNW Melly for his song “Murder on My Mind” which he released a few months after his friends’ murder. YNW Melly trial update
On June 12, YNW Melly’s trial began after his arrest which was made on Feb 13, 2019, on two counts of first-degree murder. Recalling the incident in which charges against YNW Melly are related, a co-defendant and confidant Cortlen Henry rushed into Memorial Hospital Miramar’s emergency room, telling medical staff two men were shot inside his 2018 Jeep Compass on October 26, 2018.
An officer of Miramar Police found YNW Sackchaser in the front passenger seat with gunshot wounds to his head and torso and the second victim Thomas Jr. was found in the right rear passenger seat with gunshot wounds to the back and head. In recounting their whereabouts, the defense argued that the trio had left the New Era Recording Studio located in Fort Lauderdale in Florida when a car pulled up next to their car on Miramar Parkway, and masked gunmen started the open fire. But later the police heard from a witness that he was at the recording studio with Henry, Thomas, Williams, and Melly that night.
CCTV footage was shown in the court that depicted the four men in Jeep Compass and a single .40 caliber shell cashing tucked inside a white plastic bag in the rear passenger seat. Where is YNW Melly? Since rapper Melly was arrested in 2019, he has been in the Broward main jail. In fact, lots of efforts were made to get bail during the pandemic, but the rapper could not come out. Talking about the jury deliberations, the 12-person jury has been deliberating for nearly seven hours on whether the rapper, born Jamell Demons, is guilty of killing his two friends, YNW Juvy and YNW SakChaser. Meanwhile, Judge John Murphy instructed the jury on what will happen if they are deadlocked on the decision of this case. The medical examiner said that there was no GSR firearm residue found on YNW Melly. At the crime scene, .40 caliber bullets were recovered but to this day there’s no firearm in evidence known to be the murder weapon.
