Full transparency, I don’t really like horror movies.
So I was naturally a little hesitant when asked to check out Peacock and Blumhouse’s first “Nightmare,” an immersive weekend-long Halloween experience themed around fans of Blumhouse’s favorite films. Treacherous, Cleaning, Happy death day and strange.

What intrigued me was that it would take place at the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado, famous for being the inspiration for Steven King The It shines. I like the idea of ghosts so I decided I could be brave enough to take a few scares and see what the sold out experience would mean.
Arriving at the Lodge at the hotel, the experience began as soon as my husband and I checked in and were greeted with “conci-scare-ge”. They showed us our room, which was decorated like a scene from Happy death daycomplete with colored lights and a radio playing the song the main character Tree hears when the same day begins (after being killed the night before, as Groundhog day with a creepy delay).

We have chosen for our nightly interactive scares strange, HDD and Cleaningeach with a different fear threshold from one to four daggers, four of which are the most fearsome. My 17-year-old son told me that Treacherous was the scariest movie he had ever seen, so I gave up on that movie. We were told to be in the room 15 minutes before the start of each experience and to hang a Do Not Disturb sign on the door.
In the meantime, we looked at the rest of the Lodge, where various characters from the movies were constantly meeting, but also Teacup room, a spooky lounge that took guests into the world of Peacock’s new thriller series, and a Blumhouse bar with couches and cocktails created for horror fans. Guests also had the opportunity to play the company’s upcoming video game, Fear the Spotlight.
Our meals over the two days were delicious, and in between scares, we wandered around the hotel’s main building and grounds, soaking up the spooky seasonal atmosphere, resulting in a sold-out hotel even on weekdays. Every evening we also invited to the screenings of the Paun series Teacup as well as a Blumhouse film Do not speak evil.
As for our fear, it was already unsettling to wait for someone to knock on our door to get us out of the room. Each of the experiences was orchestrated by very convincing actors who play characters from the movies. They took us to the third floor of the Lodge where the rooms were transformed into terrifying scenes.

As we walked through, the characters interacted with each other and brought us into each moment full of fear. I’ll just say strange and Happy death day were more jump-scares while Cleaning he had us on our knees at one point in a room that looked covered in blood.
And even though I admittedly had my eyes closed for most of it, I would still do it again. Facing my fears was a huge part of the experience and I will always highly recommend it to anyone.
Horror fans who prefer their scares from the comfort of their own home can now find some of Blumhouse’s best films streaming on Peacock, such as Insidious, Happy Death Day, Halloween Kills, Get out, purge franchise and strangeplus new episodes of the original series Teacup . From “Freaky Franchises” to “Horror 101” collections, Peacock Halloween’s full lineup includes more than 150 titles to help everyone enjoy this Halloween season.
