Cyclone Biparjoy is a tropical cyclone that formed in the southeast Arabian Sea on June 6, 2023. It is the first cyclone to form in the Arabian Sea this season. The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a severe cyclone in the coming days. The IMD has forecast that Cyclone “Biparjoy” will gradually strengthen in the next 24 hours and move almost north-northwest in the next 3 days. At 8:30 a.m., it was centered at latitude 14.0°N and longitude 66.0°E, approximately 850 km west-southwest of Goa, 900 km south-west of Mumbai, and north of Porbandar 930 km south-southwest and 1,220 km south of Karachi. .

The name “Biparjoy” was given by Bangladesh to the storm. It means “accident” or “disaster” in Bengali. The name was selected from a list of names submitted by member countries of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the west coast of India. The IMD has issued warnings for heavy rain in Gujarat, Goa, Maharashtra and Karnataka. The IMD also warned of gusts of up to 160 km/h.

The cyclone is not expected to cause widespread damage to India, but could cause some flooding and power outages. Everyone should take precautions and protection during tornadoes.
