What Noah Thompson Is Up To After Winning American Idol Season 20

American Idol winner Noah Thompson has been busy since taking home the season 20 crown. Noah, a 20-year-old construction worker, auditioned for the show when his best friend Arthur signed him up. Noah had no prior performing experience, but Arthur believed in Noah’s raw talent. He knew he would never try out for the show on his own. Noah impressed judges – Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan – with his rendition of “Giving You Up” by Kameron Marlowe and earned his golden ticket to Hollywood.

During his American Idol journey, Noah grew as an artist. He put his own spin on songs, such as “Falling” by Harry Styles, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King, and “Heartbreak Warfare” by John Mayer. He was impressive when he sang the unexpected choice of “Stay” during his Hollywood Week Showstoppers routine. He performed the song again for his final American Idol performance and somehow sang it even better than the first time. Although the competition was very important to him, he cared most about being the best father he could possibly be to his 1-year-old son, Walker. Since winning American Idol, Noah has shared his many accomplishments with his fans.

Noah Thompson Releases Singles After American Idol

After the success of his American Idol single “One Day Tonight,” which reached number one on the music charts, Noah followed it up with two other songs. In July, he released a country version of “Stay,” his signature song from American Idol. He followed that up in October with “Make You Rich,” a song that was in the running to be his first single. In an interview with Country Now, Noah revealed that on American Idol, he was pitched some songs, but he chose “One Day Tonight” for his first single after going back and forth between that song and “Make You Rich.”

However, Noah shared that he loved the message of “Make You Rich.” He emphasized the importance of his family and friends, and he “thought that would be a really good song for me to do just to show me as a person, because I was the American Idol winner that went home and got on our freaking lawnmower and cut the grass.” Noah added that he wanted people to know that he will never forget who he is by sticking to his roots. Staying true to his words, Noah returned home to Kentucky to film the music video for the song, which includes scenes of him and his son.

Noah Thompson Tours With American Idol Runner-Up HunterGirl

American Idol winner Noah and runner-up HunterGirl’s co-headlining tour wrapped up in December in St. Louis, Missouri after several dates that began in October in Columbus, Ohio. Since he moved from construction work to the music industry practically overnight, Noah admitted after one of the tour stops, he started having second thoughts about his talents and whether he was good enough. He expressed, “nights like tonight remind me that that’s why I love it so much, because of the people, and it’s just, I don’t know. I could cry a thing about it. It’s just a really special thing.”

Noah confessed that it has been hard for him to spend time away from his family while he works on new music in Nashville and on tours, but he is inspired by his son to keep going. Noah shared that this tremendous life change was really hard on him, but he knows that he is “never gonna be able to take care of that kid the way I can doing this. I mean, that’s the God honest truth. I wasn’t the smartest guy in the world. I didn’t go to college, didn’t have the money to go to college, so it’s a dream come true. It really is.” His next big show will be on New Year’s Eve, as he co-headlines with singer Chase Matthew at the Appalachian Wireless Arena in Pikeville, Kentucky. Noah also has considered moving to Nashville in the future.
