Nick was asked to leave the Big Brother house after he was caught manipulating his housemates into voting for each other by showing them slips of paper with names on them, suggesting who they would vote for.

As such, he himself has never received an eviction nomination. However, after 34 days, he was called out for his behavior after the producers told the other contestants about the situation. He was then asked to leave the BB house because he broke the rules of the show. At the time, a spokesperson for the show said: “Big Brother rules specifically prohibit contestants from discussing nominations and tactical voting.”

Immediately after the expulsion, he spoke at a press conference where he said: “I didn’t commit murder, it’s a very small mistake… I’m just an ordinary guy who took part in an unusual experiment in the midst of surveillance… I was just participating in the game. Maybe I was too competitive. I think everyone has a competitive streak — it wasn’t a garden party, it was a game.”

Where is Nick Bateman now?

Nick, 55, enjoyed a post-Big Brother hosting career, hosting TV show Trust Me before starring in Ultimate Big Brother in 2010, where he came fifth. He also appeared on Big Brother’s Big on the Side, took part in pantomime shows and did radio work.

In 2013 Nick moved to Australia where he lives in Bondi Beach with his partner Carol. Speaking to the Express about his decision to move in 2017, he said: “It was a bleak, cold day in the English countryside in 2013 when I decided to make a fresh start for myself. If I didn’t do it now, never ever I moved to Sydney where I am blessed with a beautiful country, blue skies and a lifestyle that I like.

“My marketing work involves social media for businesses – writing content and posting ads… I’m not famous here, but with the internet and YouTube people discover your experience. I can be walking past Sydney Harbor when someone shouts, ‘Hi Nick.’ It was 17 years ago, so it’s still a bit surreal to hear.”
