KXAN-TV is a television station in Austin, Texas that carries NBC programming. It is owned by a company called Nexstar Media Group. The station began operations on February 12, 1965 as KHFI-TV on channel 42. It was owned by the Kingsbury family, who also had a radio station called KHFI. At first, few could watch it because UHF signals were difficult to receive without special equipment.
However, over time, KXAN-TV became an important part of the Austin TV scene. It later changed its name to KXAN-TV and moved to channel 36.
