Lauren Tewes is a well-known personality; In 1976, she began working in the entertainment sector playing a small role in the crime thriller Charlie’s Angels. Tewes continued to appear in a number of other TV shows throughout the 1970s. But her career took off when ABC cast her as Julie McCoy Chenault in The Love Boat, a romantic comedy cruise series.
Tewes won the job after competing against more than a hundred other women. From 1977 to 1987, she appeared in more than 200 episodes of the series. However, she was dropped from the show in 1984 after a series of drug abuse allegations. She appeared in the program as a guest star in 1985 and 1998.
What is Lauren Tewes up to these days?
Tewes is currently still working as an actor. Her last film appearance was in the 2021 dark comedy Potato Dreams of America. She also occasionally does voice work for video games. He also works as a sous chef for a catering company in Seattle when he’s not performing. Furthermore, in November 2021, it was announced that Tewes would appear in The Love Ship in an honorary capacity. Part of the memory of the deceased actors of the series, MacLeod, will be presented by Princess Cruise Celebrations. Tewes will star alongside Bernie Kopell, Ted Lange, Jill Whelen and others on the program.
Lauren Tewes: How did it start?
Tewes was cast the day before production began on the third Love Ship pilot. She was chosen from a pool of 100 other actresses when producer Spelling saw her in an episode of Starsky & Hutch in which she appeared. She was advised to come to the set early the next morning. Her car had a flat tire and she was poor, so she borrowed money, fixed the tire and joined the next day as requested. She had previously been in almost a dozen commercials and had one line in an episode of Charlie’s Angels that year. But the Love Boat was the much-needed break she was looking for.

What effect does her drug addiction have on her career?
Unfortunately, her journey from struggling singer to television stardom was not without setbacks. It was the 1970s, and she was quite rich. It didn’t take long for her to spend most of it on cocaine. “It gave me a feeling of incredible joy. You believe you are in good health. You believe that you are stronger and braver than others. It gave me the courage I lacked, I decided. It was like going to Oz and looking for courage. Instead, I got cocaine, Tewes said (according to UPI). Due to a series of no-shows, she was fired a few years before the end of Love Boat.

“I was trying to maintain a career, a spouse and a home. I was destroying myself trying to please everyone. I was high on drugs. I didn’t get enough sleep. I took a nap at work. I behaved badly at work, and that’s where I made a fatal mistake – added the actress. Tewes began to withdraw after realizing that she was “not having a good time” and that she was “dying”. She said she would take a pay cut to try and make things right, but it was too late and Pat Klous stepped in as Julie’s younger sister, Judy.
