Where to Find (& Catch) Dondozo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Dondozo is a Water-type Big Catfish Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that serves as one of the five Titans that players must face during the Path of Legends storyline. However, Trainers can also encounter Dondozo as a normal Wild pocket monster roaming its habitat in Paldea. This Big Catfish Pokémon cannot evolve but does feature a few impressive IVs, such as its superior HP of 150. In terms of dealing damage in combat, Dondozo is probably not the pocket monster players should choose, but the Water-type catfish might serve as a decent damage-absorbing tank against Fire-, Water-, Ice-, and Steel-type matchups.

Finding Dondozo is easy since the Big Catfish Pokémon only inhabits the waters of Casseroya Lake, the large body of water that occupies the northwestern corner of the Paldean map in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Naturally, Trainers will need to have unlocked the ability Swim by defeating the Open Sky Titan: Bombirdier. Keep in mind that most pocket monsters of Casseroya Lake are leveled at 50 and higher, as this region is an endgame zone. Accordingly, players must have their best Pokémon counters equipped for the job.

How To Catch Dondozo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

As a Water-type Pokémon, Dondozo is vulnerable to Electric- and Grass-type Moves in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Therefore, the optimal combatants to use in subduing Dondozo would be the top-tier pocket monsters of their type. For instance, excellent Electric-type Pokémon would include Magnezone, Jolteon, or Luxray, while choice Grass-type combatants could be Gogoat, Leafeon, or Tsareena. On the other hand, Game8 recommends that players use Meowscarada, Mimikyu, Gyarados, or Azumarill to defeat Dondozo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Each of these picks offers an advantage against the Water-type Big Catfish, such as a Super Effective Moveset or high resistance. For clarification, these pocket monsters were chosen specifically for the Dondozo Titan boss fight, but they should also suffice for battling a normal Wild Dondozo.

Catching or causing Dondozo to faint in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet can also yield Dondozo Whiskers. Dondozo Whiskers are a TM crafting material used for making TM121 Heavy Slam and TM154 Hydro Cannon. Heavy Slam is a Steel-type Move that deals damage based on the opponent’s weight. If the target is a lightweight creature, this Move will deal more damage. Hydro Cannon is a high-damage Water-type attack in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet that prevents its user from attacking during the next turn. This Move would likely be effective when used as a finishing blow when an opponent’s HP is low.
