A World on Fire returns to BBC One on Sunday night after a four-year hiatus – and we couldn’t be more excited!

Where was the second season of World on Fire filmed?
While we don’t know the exact locations used for the second season of the popular BBC series, we do know that it was filmed in Northern Ireland.
For the first season, both Manchester and Prague were used as the main filming locations. Wigan areas were also used for scenes in the city of Manchester.

As for the parts of the series that took place in Poland, Berlin, and Paris, almost all of those scenes were shot in Prague. Series one director Adam Smith told RadioTimes.com: “We also pretended part of Manchester was Warsaw. And part of Wigan was Paris. It was a really confusing shot!”
Viewers may also notice that the beaches of Blackpool are also the shores of Dunkirk.

What is World on Fire Season 2 about?
Set in 1941, part two A world on fire tells the story of World War II through the eyes of ordinary people and freedom fighters.
The synopsis reads: “RAF pilots were dispatched to destroy German bombers lurking over Manchester, while rescue operations were underway in the streets below. In fact war has come to England.”

The series is set during World War II
The new episodes “will take viewers from Britain’s war-torn roads deep into Nazi Germany, the resistance inside occupied France and the brutal sands of the North African desert – where the military struggled to adapt to a very different kind of fighting.”
The second part, filmed last year, takes us to North Africa, “where soldiers from the British Empire fought for the Allies in a desert that was divided by the European powers last century, ” said writer and creator Peter Bowker. .
