New Girl spent seven fantastic seasons showcasing its wonderful cast of characters. Not only was the show hysterically funny, but the characters were layered and relatable for many people, which is one of the reasons why fans continue to watch and celebrate the series.
Each character was written uniquely and distinctly, making it easy for fans to see themselves in these fictional people, but also for them to be assigned zodiac signs. In pairing characters with a zodiac sign, not only are their unforgettable traits highlighted, but new aspects of the characters can be uncovered too.

This is also due to its memorable characters, whose personalities remain strong throughout the series’ run.
Aries – Schmidt
With his energetic and emotional personality, Schmidt is definitely a fire sign, and he exhibits a lot of classic Aries traits. Aries are often very determined, and Schmidt worked hard not only in his professional life, but also in his relationship with Cece.
Given that Aries tend to be more emotional people, they may lead with their hearts more times than not, as Schmidt has done in both his relationships and friendships. While to some this could seem a little impulsive, it always comes from a heartfelt place.
Taurus – Coach
Taurus signs are very patient. They are the rock for their friends and family, and act as someone people can turn to for anything. Coach definitely fills that role for his former roommates. His presence on New Girl may come and go, but he’s loyal and always there when Jess, Nick, Schmidt, or Winston need him to be.
As reliable as Taurus’ are, though, they can also be a bit stubborn, which Coach proves when he’s packing for NYC and refusing to bring anything sentimental from his friends.
Gemini – Winston
Geminis are known for having two sides to them, and there are a lot of layers to Winston, as explored in the funniest Winston episodes of New Girl. Winston is sensitive and passionate, but also nervous and indecisive. Winston loves his bird shirts, but is quick to anger if someone doesn’t share his passion.
Winston also loves a good prank, but tends to take them too far. Embodying the Gemini’s energetic vibes, Winston is a lovable and fun character to watch, no matter the situation he finds himself in.
Cancer – Nick
Cancer signs are known to have big imaginations, and it’s safe to say that this sums up Nick Miller’s career as the author of “The Pepperwood Chronicles”.
In addition to being imaginative, Cancers are also very loyal, and Nick is incredibly so, to the extent that his roommates are his longest-held friends. Nick met Schmidt in college, and Winston when they were kids. These bonds remain important to Nick throughout New Girl’s seven seasons, and make up some of the best relationships on the sitcom.
Leo – Cece
When audiences first meet Cece, she is working as a model, a job that shows off that she has the Leo traits of being bold and self-assured.
As the show progresses and Cece’s personality is explored in more depth, it’s revealed that she is also a generous friend, and is always in the mood for a good laugh, shown through her friendship with Winston. These Leo traits show why Cece is one of the best New Girl characters, and make her compelling to watch in both dramatic and comedic moments.
Virgo – Reagan
Viewers meet Reagan in season five of New Girl when she temporarily moves into the loft while Jess is sequestered for jury duty. Reagan works in pharmaceutical sales, and thanks to her hardworking nature—a common trait for many Virgos—she’s very successful.
Further showing her Virgo tendencies, Reagan is also very practical. She’s matter-of-fact in all areas of her life, whether that be her relationships or her work, and is unafraid to pursue the things that she wants.
Libra – Paul
Jess started dating Paul early on in the series, and the two seemed to be a match made in heaven, but it didn’t last long. Paul was always very cooperative, a common Libra trait, and made Jess feel supported when she wanted to try new things in the bedroom.
As a teacher and music lover, Paul exhibited a Libra’s intelligence, and also remained kind even when others in the loft didn’t immediately understand him.
Scorpio – Ferguson
The Scorpio sign is loyal and loving and is considered to be a real true friend among the zodiac signs. In New Girl, there was no friendship more pure and true than that of Winston and his cat, Ferguson.
Ferguson was always there when Winston needed him and put up with a lot from his best friend, who enjoyed dressing him up and taking a lot of photos. An iconic New Girl character, Ferguson is definitely a Scorpio.
Sagittarius – Sam
Sagittarius’ are known for their generosity and their humor, which Sam, Jess’ boyfriend in the first and second season, definitely has. Sam is also a pediatrician, which is further proof of his generous nature.
At the same time, Sam seems to have difficulty settling down and can sometimes make promises he’s unable to keep. This fear of being constrained is a classic trait for Sagittarius signs.
Capricorn – Aly
Aly and Winston meet and fall in love after being paired as partners in the police force. Aly is a reliable, smart, and responsible individual, all of which are signs of a Capricorn.
Aly is also very disciplined and likes to follow the rules, another common Capricorn sentiment. A New Girl side character with main character energy, Aly achieves what she sets her mind to.
Aquarius – Ruth
The child of Schmidt and Cece, Ruth will definitely grow up to be an independent person, and may even become a humanitarian, a common path for Aquarius’, especially given the fact that she’s named after a female political icon.
Schmidt and Cece have definitely set their daughter up for success, and like most Aquarius’, she has the inherent skill and unique outlook on life to see that her success come to fruition.
Pisces – Jess
Pisces are compassionate and artistic, which are two of the best words to describe the star of New Girl, Jessica Day. Jess is a teacher, which shows she has a lot of compassion, and the fact that she teaches younger children means she is flexing her creative and artistic muscles daily.
Pisces are also known for their musical ability, and Jess repeatedly showcases that she loves to sing. Additionally, Pisces often have strong moral views, and Jess is no stranger to standing up for herself and what she believes in.
