Whitney Port shares a difficult setback in her journey to have another child.
In her November 7 episode With Whit podcast, the former reality star, 38, and husband Tim Rosenman revealed they decided to turn to surrogacy last year after “a really long struggle with not being able to conceive on their own.”
They said they found an “amazing” surrogate mother and ended up doing two embryo transfers with her, only to face heartbreak. “Both transfers ended in miscarriage,” Port said. “The last miscarriage was just a month ago.”
Rosenman added, “It’s worth saying that they were both at seven and a half weeks, when we were told we had a 97% chance of a successful pregnancy. So to have that back to back, the odds are really crazy.”
The experiences left the couple — who are parents to 6-year-old son Sonny Sanford — wondering if something was wrong. “We’re thinking, is something going on, either with the surrogate or with our embryos?” Rosenman continued.

Now they are struggling with what steps to take next. “We’re back in this early stage where we still have three embryos, two that have been tested, one that hasn’t been tested,” Port explained.
“We’re deciding are we going to try a new lab? Are we going to do another round of egg retrieval to get new embryos? Like, are all these embryos from the last batch bad or are we going to put one of the embryos that was already made into a surrogate right now and go with that until we make a plan for another egg retrieval.”
While she was quick to note that they are “not back to square one” because they are in the fortunate position of still having three remaining embryos and being assisted by a surrogacy agency, she said that “it seems [like they are starting over] every time a miscarriage occurs.”
Rosenman said the whole process took a lot out of them. “All the emailing and scheduling, it’s like another job. The administrative work around it is so tiring and adds another layer of exhaustion.”

For Port, it was difficult to overcome the constant worry about things over which he ultimately has no control. “What’s on my mind is how I function and simplify and try to keep some peace and calm while dealing with these other things that are going on,” she explained. “I can’t do anything about it, but it’s weighing on me. I want to be present [at work]be there for Sonny.”

Whitney Port says weight worries are ‘a bit overblown’: ‘I’m a busy mum who just needs to take better care of myself’
In recent years, Port has been candid about her fertility challenges on her YouTube channel and podcast. The hills alum experienced multiple pregnancy losses before announcing her pregnancy in November 2021. Soon after, she discovered that she had miscarried.
“I’m so sad to say this, but we lost a baby,” she wrote in an Instagram Story post at the time. “We found out yesterday, I don’t even know what to say. I recorded a full verbal diary of all my thoughts and emotions last night to put on my podcast next week.”
When she first announced her pregnancy on YouTube, Port – who was seven weeks pregnant at the time – said doctors kept a close eye on her because of her history of miscarriages. “I had two miscarriages and a chemical pregnancy. And everything seemed fine until yesterday.”
She went on to explain that the ultrasound showed that the pregnancy was not progressing normally. “Whatever was going on there, it wasn’t where it needed to be, given the week I’m in,” she said.
During a follow-up ultrasound, her doctors were unable to find the baby’s heartbeat. “I went to pick up eight today [week] and a four-day ultrasound, and last week the baby doubled in size and heard a heartbeat, and then this week there was no heartbeat,” she said.
When she shared the news of her pregnancy loss, Port sent a heartfelt message of support to other women facing similar challenges. “Sending all my love to those of you who are dealing with this right now,” she said on her Instagram Story.
