Donte Key and Nicole Key have a son named Dane Key. Donte, his father, is the linebackers coach at Frederick Douglass. He was a linebacker for the Kentucky Wildcats from 1992 to 1995 and was named the National Defensive Player of the Week for his effort in the first game of the Governor’s Cup against Louisville in 1994. Like his father, Dane’s brother, Devon Key, is also from the football world. He is a former Western Kentucky standout who is currently with the NFL’s Kansas City Chiefs. Dane attended Bryan Station High School and Frederick Douglass High School, where he majored in business administration. On August 31, 2019, the Kentucky Wildcards became the first club to make an offer to Dane. He then received offers from the Louisville Cardinals, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Tennessee Volunteers, Ohio State Buckeyes, West Virginia Mountaineers and Northwestern Wildcats, among others.
But he eventually committed to the Kentucky Wildcats on October 28, 2021, and enrolled three months later on January 19, 2022. Vince Marrow recruited him. He is currently listed as the 235th best player in the country, the 36th best wide receiver and the top recruit in Kentucky for the class of 2022.
