JaVale McGee’s family has a rich sports history. McGee was most recently a member of the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). JaVale Montgomery was born on January 19, 1988 in Flint, Michigan to father George Montgomery and mother Pamela McGee. The Washington Wizards selected JaVale McGee 18th overall in the 2008 NBA Draft.

JaVale McGee’s family has a rich sports history. His father, George Montgomery, was 6 feet 10 inches (2.08 meters) tall and was a second-round draft pick of the Portland Trail Blazers in 1985, however, he never played for the club. His mother Pamela, on the other hand, is a well-known figure in women’s basketball. She was a star at the University of Southern California, where she played with her twin sister, Paula, and the 6-foot-3-inch (1.91 meter) standout Cheryl Miller.
They won two NCAA Division I championships together in 1983 and 1984, following two Michigan state titles at Northern Flint High School. Pamela also won an Olympic gold medal in 1984 and was selected by the Sacramento Monarchs in the 1997 WNBA draft. During her career, she was a member of both the Monarchs and the Los Angeles Sparks. What makes JaVale McGee even more special is that he is the first son of a WNBA player to make it to the NBA.
Imani McGee-Stafford, his younger half-sister, is also a professional basketball player who previously played for the Chicago Sky and Atlanta Dream in the WNBA. Pamela, who has a degree in economics, has balanced her international basketball career with raising children, homeschooling, coaching and teaching in the off-season, a feat that has not come without criticism. JaVale McGee is also a cousin of retired NFL defensive lineman Jarron Gilbert.

Pamela Denise McGee, born December 1, 1962, is a member of the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame. McGee grew up in Flint, Michigan, where she attended Flint Southwestern Academy before graduating from Flint Northern High School. She was an Academic All-American at Northern High School and excelled in both girls basketball and track and field, winning two consecutive state titles in each event. She even achieved a state record in the shot put in track and field, demonstrating her incredible athletic ability.
Namely, she was chosen as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Parade All-American game, which included the best high school players in the country. After her high school success, McGee went on to a successful basketball career, winning two NCAA Championships as an All-American while playing for the University of Southern California.
