Who Is Alan Cumming’s Husband? All About Grant Shaffer

Alan Cumming and Grant Shaffer have a lasting love.

After two years together, the couple married in a civil ceremony in London in January 2007.

“Not only are we so happy to be able to celebrate our love for each other, but to be able to do so in a country that truly recognizes the rights of same-sex couples,” Cumming said in a statement to PEOPLE at the time.

“As Americans we would love to get married there, but we hope that soon the civil rights afforded to us in the UK will be available to all gay Americans and we look forward to celebrating not only our marriage, but the end of prejudice.”

Five years later, Cumming and Shaffer married for the second time after the US Supreme Court ruled in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage.

Famous couples who have had fun more than once

He and Cumming were married twice

Five years after celebrating their civil partnership in London, the couple held their second wedding at New York’s Soho Grand Hotel in January 2012. The wedding came just months after New York became the sixth US state to legalize same-sex marriage.

In January 2024, Cumming and Shaffer celebrated 17 years of marriage.

Alan Cumming’s dogs helped him become an actor

“Honey and Leon were both rescue dogs. I had Honey and Grant had Leon, and when we got together they were about 4 years old, and so they became, you know, brother and sister. And so this book is kind of way about us,” Cumming told WSHU Public Radio about the inspiration for the book.

During the interview, Cumming also noted that the book was not his first collaboration with his wife, as Shaffer created the illustrations for his bar Club Cumming. “We had some Club Cumming glasses and trays and stuff, he drew it… and he actually did a really beautiful mural on two walls of the bar… It’s kind of a big celebration of our two big collaborations.”
