He is a great celebrity in various fields. After retiring from football, he began training in Brazilian boxing and Jiu-jitsu in Colorado. He then entered amateur boxing, winning the Colorado Novice Heavyweight Golden Glove after six months of training. While training at High Altitude Martial Arts in Aurora and Grudge Training Center in Arvada, he met UFC heavyweight Shane Carwin. Additionally, on his MMA debut in 2008, he won the heavyweight belt with a 4-0 record. In 2009, he signed with the UFC and competed in the tenth season of The Ultimate Fighter, where he won the quarterfinals. With a fight at The Ultimate Fighter Heavyweights Finale, he made his UFC debut.
He won the rescheduled match against Laver Johnson on 23 February 2013, after the match was postponed on 8 December 2012 due to a groin injury.
