Who Is Brett Favre’s Wife? All About Deanna Favre

Brett Favre and his wife Deanna Favre (née Tynes) are high school sweethearts who have managed to stay together through good times and bad.

The former Green Bay Packers quarterback first met Deanna in 1983 when they were both 14 years old. The couple quickly reconciled and dated throughout high school. After graduation, Deanna went to a nearby college, while Brett attended the University of Southern Mississippi on a football scholarship. Their relationship developed further when Deanna became pregnant at the age of 19.

In 1989, the couple had a daughter, Brittany. Just two years later, Brett was drafted into the NFL, where he spent one season with the Atlanta Falcons before joining the Packers. However, things did not always go smoothly between them.

“There were times when we were broken up and we were seeing other people, but we still talked,” Deanna said in an interview with The Journal Times. “I’ve always known that if a relationship doesn’t work out, we can always be friends.”

However, in the end the couple decided to give it a real chance and in 1995 Deanna moved to Wisconsin so they could live together with their daughter. The following year, the couple married, and in 1999 their second daughter, Breleigh, was born.

Brett and Deanna grew up in the small town of Kiln, Mississippi. The couple went to the same school throughout their childhood, but didn’t officially meet until they were in high school.

During his Hall of Fame induction speech, Brett detailed meeting Deanna for the first time at his older brother’s birthday party. “There was one person that caught my eye and one person only,” he said. “She is as beautiful today as she was on December 18, 1983 in my living room.”

Although the two – who were 14 at the time – were quite shy, they started talking and flirting that evening. “The chemistry was there right away,” Deanna said The Journal Times.

Their early courtship helped shape the foundation of their relationship. “We started dating so young,” she said New York Daily News. “I always knew he was a good, quality person with a great character.”

Like Brett, Deanna was a gifted athlete in high school—even going to college on a basketball scholarship.

In an article she wrote for Guideposts magazine, Deanna said she met Brett shooting hoops on the basketball court.

“I was an athlete like him,” she wrote. “Officially we were a couple, but most of what we did together was sports. We played catch on our dates and he bought me a mitt and a catcher’s mitt as a present.”

Deanna’s college basketball career was cut short after she became pregnant at the age of 19.

“We had no idea where our lives were going,” Deanna said New York Daily News, adding that she and Brett were “taking it one day at a time.”

On February 6, 1989, the couple welcomed their daughter, Brittany. More than a decade later, on July 13, 1999, their second daughter, Breleigh, was born.

After Brittany’s birth, the couple went through a turbulent few years. Brett was drafted into the NFL in 1991 while Deanna stayed in Mississippi taking care of their daughter. With so much time apart, their relationship fell apart again for several years, on and off until they decided to take the next step.

“We were just talking about it one night and said, ‘It’s time to make it or break it.’ We either had to move in together and try to work it out, or we should have broken up and moved on with our lives,” she said. The Journal Times.

In 1995, Deanna moved to Green Bay so she and Brittany could live with Brett. Within a year they were married.

The couple married on July 14, 1996 in a small, private ceremony at the Catholic Church of St. Agnes. Their daughter Brittany served as flower girl. Speaking to PEOPLE, Deanna described the wedding as “really short, sweet and short.”

They have three grandchildren

Brett and Deanna are now grandparents too, thanks to oldest daughter Brittany, who is mom to three boys: Parker Brett, Alexander “AJ” James and Oscar.

Brittany welcomed her first child, son Parker Brett, on April 2, 2010, with her ex.

In 2013, she married her current husband, Alex Mallion. Their son AJ was born the following year. The couple’s younger son, Oscar, was born in 2017.

“Deanna is the best teammate I’ve ever had,” he said in a statement to ESPN. “She has been with me throughout this journey and I am very excited that she can play such an important role for me.”

According to the Hall of Fame, Deanna was only the second woman to serve as an emcee for the inductee, but for Brett, it was a no-brainer.

“It was an easy choice for my wife to meet me, since she was there long before my first touchdown pass, long after my last,” he said during his speech. He shared the story of watching an NFL game with his dad and older brother for the first time at the age of 14.

After that game they went home where, unbeknownst to them, Brett’s mother had planned a surprise party for his brother. Since Brett was the first to enter, he was quite embarrassed by the party, but one person caught his eye.

“Well, that person happened to be my future wife, Deanna, by far the strongest and bravest person I know,” he said in his speech, calling her a “wonderful mother,” an “exceptional athlete” and a “woman of faith.”

Deanna was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004 at the age of 35 and underwent a lumpectomy and chemotherapy.

In an article she wrote for Guideposts magazine, she described the experience of going through chemotherapy. Along with the pain, she struggled with hair loss, but Brett shaved her head in support.

“Going through all that adversity together made us even closer,” she said New York Daily News.

After recovering, she became a lawyer and worked to help others facing the same thing. She began accepting speaking engagements and founded the Deanna Favre Hope Foundation to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

She also published a book, Don’t bet against me, a memoir about overcoming challenges.
