The final round of auditions for Season 21 of American Idol will air on ABC on March 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET. American Idol contestant Cam Amen burst into tears in front of the judges.
Amen is a Tik-Tok singer with more than 3,000 followers and 17,000 likes. He was separated from his mother and raised in a foster family. Cam described his American Idol rehearsal as “rough” before singing Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah and playing notes on the piano. Then he said:
“We spent a long time in foster care.” I moved out when I was 18 and brought my siblings with me. I realized that I had to educate them properly and send them through high school.”
Amen has been raising his brothers alone for the past 5 years. During Cam’s trial, referee Luke Bryan could not hold back his tears. Bryan received a standing ovation from the three judges and also stated,
“You’ve been through a lot, but you have the rest of your life ahead of you, can you hear me?”
Cam, whose real name is Cameron Osterloh, works as a waiter at City Fire in Florida and has a dog named Karma. He uploaded his first video of Parson James’s cover of The Waiting Game to YouTube 5 years ago. Amen placed second in the Sanford Performance Challenge, winning $500. He also played in a charity concert for Ukrainian migrants at Lady Lake.
The contestants’ voices have a wide range. In another interview, he talked about his try on American Idol, saying:
“I’ve worked so hard for years just to be able to sing in front of people, so it’s amazing to know that I’m on television and singing in front of millions of people.”
On his Tik-Tok account, he plays many original songs as well as several covers, including I Will Always Love You, Lay Me Down and It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday. Cam’s most famous film is a competitive duet in which he sings Say Something with his grandmother. Commenting on the video, he revealed that his grandmother, who loved the song, passed away while he was singing to her.
However, the American Idol video does not reveal whether Cam passed the audition. Tune in to ABC on Sunday, March 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET to see if Cam Amen can pass the American Idol test and progress to the Hollywood Week rotation. The day after it first aired, fans can watch the show on Hulu and the network’s website.
