Fred Hoiberg’s wife, Carol Hoiberg, is from Iowa and met him in high school. The two married in 1996 and have four children. Carol Hoiberg has seen it all. She was with Fred when the Pacers drafted him into the NBA. She was by his side even when his ten-year playing career was cut short due to open heart surgery.

Carol Hoiberg, wife of Fred Hoiberg, is a native of Ames, Iowa who has been married to the basketball coach for 27 years. Carol posted numerous family photos on her Instagram profile, and the last one is from Christmas. The two began dating while attending Ames High School, and their love story continued when they enrolled at Iowa State University. Carol’s father, Denis McGee, and Fred’s father were professors at Iowa State University.
The couple experienced many ups and downs together. Fred was still an NBA player in the early 2000s, playing for the Timberwolves until he was forced into early retirement due to an enlarged aortic root. Fred had known he had an enlarged bicuspid aortic valve since his college days. However, a month before the surgery in 2005, he discovered that it had developed to the point where treatment was required.
Carol discovered her husband lying face down in a pool of blood the night after his first open-heart surgery in 2005. She quickly called 911, and doctors determined he had fluid buildup in the heart area. In 2015, the basketball coach had another open heart surgery. Fred renewed the batteries of his pacemaker a year before that treatment, in 2014. However, there were no health problems for the trainer after that. Carol enjoys posting tributes to her husband and children on her social media accounts. Last year, she posted a heartfelt message on the occasion of her 27th wedding anniversary. Ms. Hoiberg captioned the image, “27 years today!” When you marry your best friend, time seems to fly! “I love you baby!”

The basketball coach and his wife have four children: three boys (including twins) and one girl. Paige Hoiberg, the couple’s oldest child, is their daughter. Paige Hoiberg was born on June 20, 1997, and graduated from the University of Kansas. She previously worked as a marketing intern for the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA and as an office assistant for the Kansas’ Men’s Basketball Office. After graduating in 2019, Paige began working as a Real Estate Assistant at Learfield IMG College. She spent a year there before joining the Big Ten Network as a sales planner. A year later, she was promoted to supervisor, but last year began working as an associate sales representative for Stryker, a medical technology company. She is on Instagram, but keeps her account a secret.
Fred and Carol welcomed their second child, Jack Hoiberg, on March 11, 1999. Jack followed in his father’s footsteps and enrolled at Michigan State University in 2017. However, Jack did not get much playing time at Michigan State and transferred to the University of Texas Arlington after his senior year. In 2021, he graduated from Michigan with a degree in communication. Jack scored 85 points in 25 games and averaged 3.2 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game during his one season at UTA. Since 2022, Jack has been working as a basketball operations video analyst for Spurs Sports & Entertainment.
Twins Carol and Fred Hoiberg
Carol gave birth to twins Charlie and Samuel Hoiberg on March 21, 2003. Charlie and Samuel pursued different careers, with Samuel preferring to follow in his father’s footsteps. Charlie is now pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Texas Christian University. He is a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon and Vice President of Recruitment. Samuel, on the other hand, enrolled at the University of Nebraska and plays basketball there.
Samuel, a guard, played in 21 games in 2022 as a redshirt freshman, averaging 4.1 points on 55% shooting and 1.8 rebounds per game. Samuel’s Instagram feed is mostly dedicated to his basketball career. He is currently dating Bella Gregg, a Nebraska Cornhuskers cheerleader.
