He missed most of the 2004 season due to an elbow injury. He broke his arm in a bar fight before the start of the following year’s season.
In the summer, he was promoted to the AA team, but due to back spasms, he could not play the rest of the season. He was promoted to the Class AAA International League in 2006. In 35 games played in the minor leagues, he went 14-4 with 273 strikeouts. The Philadelphia Phillies then promoted him to the major league. He was suspended for the 2012 season after he intentionally hit Bryce Harper during a game and admitted it.
