Who Is Craig Melvin’s Wife? All About Sports Reporter Lindsay Czarniak

Craig Melvin and his wife Lindsay Czarniak met while working at NBC affiliate WRC-TV in Washington, DC in 2008.

The couple, now broadcasters for various networks, married in 2011 and are parents to two children, son Delan and daughter Sybil.

“We make it work and it’s been very, very helpful to have someone who understands the crazy hours and all that stuff,” Czarniak told PEOPLE of their busy lives.

Despite their careers taking them all over the world, including Melvin’s reporting from Tokyo 2021 for the Summer Olympics and Beijing 2022 for the Winter Olympics, they try to stay connected as a family while apart. In an interview with PEOPLE, Melvin said, “It was hard, but thank God for FaceTime.”

Melvin also praised his wife in a Mother’s Day post, calling her “the glue that holds everything together.”

They started as friends and colleagues

According to The Washington Post, Czarniak, a sports reporter for the WRC at the time, was away on assignment covering the 2008 Beijing Olympics when Melvin joined the network as a news anchor. Upon her return, she introduced herself to her new colleague during the commercial break.

After they became friends and casually hung out for a few months, Melvin invited her for a drink. Czarniak was reluctant to enter into a relationship with his colleague, but agreed to meet.

“The night we met, something clicked. And it wasn’t necessarily that I knew, ‘I have to be with this guy.’ But it was like, ‘I don’t want to be with anyone else that I’ve been hanging out with,'” she told the paper. “I felt like I was with someone who really turns you on and who you’ve known for a very, very long time.”

After keeping their relationship under wraps for several months, the couple got engaged during a trip to Miami, Florida in 2011.

On October 15, 2011, Melvin and Czarniak were married at the Church of the Holy City in Washington, DC, according to The Washington Postmany colleagues of the couple from WRC, where they met, were present.

After the ceremony, the newlyweds traveled in a vintage Bentley to the Hay-Adams Hotel for the reception. Adorned with orange roses, they celebrated with approximately 200 guests and were serenaded to the music of Lee Anna Myslewski.

Czarniak and Melvin welcomed a son, Delan “Del” in March 2014 and a daughter, Sybil “Sibby” in November 2016.

Delano actually helped inspire his sister’s name. The couple came up with the name “Sibby,” short for brother and sister, for Delano to refer to his sister while Czarniak was pregnant. The parents eventually fell in love with the name and kept the nickname for their little girl.

The couple frequently posts about their children, including when they took them to the 2023 Super Bowl.

“The lasting image, for me, will be the confetti falling and just watching my son be happy, and also my daughter just getting into it, because they’re only that age once, so to have this kind of experience with them, that is just great,” Czarniak told PEOPLE.

She lives in Connecticut with her husband and children

Although Czarniak travels the world to cover sports, her home base is in suburban Connecticut, where she spends her free time with her family.

The couple gave PEOPLE an inside look at their spacious abode, which includes an office with floor-to-ceiling wallpaper, at the urging of their designer, Michelle Hogue.

“I said, ‘Where I’m from, you put wallpaper on the walls,'” Melvin shared. “Then she did it, and we were like, ‘Wow, good.’ ”

Other unique features of the home include a hand-painted cherry blossom mural by Czarniak in Sybil’s room—a nod to Washington, DC, where the couple first met—and a fully finished basement that includes a wine cellar, media room, and home gym.

“These days, it’s the only place in the house where you can occasionally find 45 seconds of near silence,” he joked.

She is a sports reporter for FOX Sports

Czarniak is a FOX NFL reporter and FOX NASCAR contributor for FOX Sports. According to her bio, she has been online since 2019.

“I really love the opportunity to share what’s going on, talk about the game and cover the game, but also allow people to understand the context behind it,” she told PEOPLE.

She previously worked at ESPN from 2011 to 2017, as an anchor Sports center, SportsNation and NASCAR now. During her time there, she became the first woman to host ABC’s telecast of the Indianapolis 500.

She has her husband stored in her phone under a different name

While appearing in the episode Today along with her husband in 2021, Czarniak discovered that Melvin was listed in her phone under another name: “Jake Milstein.”

When Melvin first signed with WRC in Washington, DC, he was given a company cell phone previously used by a producer there, Jake Milstein.

“So when (Craig) called me, it came up on my phone, which was also a cell phone, as Jake Milstein,” she said. “So when he calls me, he comes up as Jake Milstein, and it’s become a thing where I see it, and that’s him.”

Melvin remained under an alias on his phone for over a decade.

“You know what television is like, it’s like sports, it’s become superstition, completely,” she said.

She acted in movies

Czarniak enjoys being in front of the camera both as a journalist and as an actress. She assisted with studio art during her time at James Madison University, Czarniak said Washington Life Magazine“I love the theater and one of my favorite things is going to the cinema and to concerts. I could spend the whole day in the cinema, especially if there are scary movies on.”

She followed her passion and appeared in the 2000 action film Amnionand a decade later, he starred in a horror film Ghosts don’t exist, playing the role of a journalist. Czarniak and NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport invested in a 4-year-old thoroughbred racehorse named Parnac, who has three wins in seven career races.
