Curtis Dixon was born on May 1, 1973 to Rochelle Dixon and Curtis Sr. His father would later abandon the family when he relapsed into drugs and alcohol, forcing Curtis’ mother to support the family alone. Because of this, she had to work three jobs. Curtis had a difficult childhood as he often got into trouble.
Curtis’ grandmother, Eleanor Johnson, was stabbed to death, and he later had a near-death experience when the trigger of a loaded gun was pointed at him and pulled, although the gun did not fire.
Curtis and his mother later moved to Point Breeze, where he attended Taylor Allderdice High School. His athletic ability was evident at school, and he later became a star on the football team. Martin graduated from Allderdice in 1991 and was inducted into the school’s Alumni Hall of Fame in 2011.

A career football running back, Martin spent most of his career with the New York Jets of the NFL. It earned him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, as he helped the Patriots advance to the Super Bowl, a year after winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. Martin was a member of the New England Patriots from 1995 to 1997 and the New York Jets from 1998 to 2006.
