Demi Lovato is getting married!

The singer, who has been publicly dating fiancé Jordan “Jutes” Lutes since August 2022, got engaged on December 16, 2023, Lovato’s rep confirmed to PEOPLE.

After a “personal and intimate proposal,” the newlyweds headed to one of their favorite restaurants in Los Angeles to celebrate with their families.

Lovato (who uses the pronouns she/they) and Jutes were first linked after they were photographed holding hands ahead of the release of their eighth studio album Saint Fvck. PEOPLE confirmed Lovato’s new relationship in early August 2022, with a source revealing at the time, “It’s a really happy and healthy relationship. He’s a great guy.”

Later that month, a source told PEOPLE that the two were going strong. “Demi is feeling happy and fulfilled right now,” the insider said. “Life is good. [Jutes’] encouragement and respect helped her immensely.”

In August 2023, Jutes celebrated Lovato’s 31st birthday on Instagram. He shared a carousel of cute selfies and goofy videos, including a photo of the two making out. “Happy birthday to my best friend. The Jutes originally come from Ottawa, Canada. According to a previous interview with Nuance magazinehe originally studied film and played basketball, before eventually developing a passion for songwriting while living in Toronto.

He is an independent musician

Jutes was previously signed to Capitol Records, but left the label “to pursue his own goals as an independent artist,” per Nuance magazine.

“I left because of the crazy budget cuts due to Covid, and I guess they didn’t want to keep me and not give me the support I needed, which is a big honor from them,” he told the publication of his decision to part ways with Capitol Records after two years.

“You often hear about labels shelving people or holding them without pressing, and I can’t say how thankful I am that it’s not me,” he added. “I wanted to be indie again for a while just because I like to be completely responsible for my career, so it turned out pretty nice.”

In his interview with Nuance magazine, opened up about his passion for songwriting, calling it his “therapy.” “I really live to write songs,” he told the publication. “That’s how I first started being honest about my emotions and mental health, so my connection to that is very deep-rooted.”
