Biography of Dennis DeYoung
Dennis DeYoung was raised in Roseland, Chicago by his parents, Maurice and Loraine DeYoung. DeYoung began his career at the age of 14 with two of his neighbor friends, Chuck and John Panozza, in 1961. In the late 1960s, the trio recruited two guitarists, James Young and John Curulewski.
Before becoming Styx in 1970, DeYoung and his bandmates renamed themselves TW4 in 1968. And the band quickly found success. DeYoung spent his early years in the suburbs of Chicago, where he also studied music. During that time, the band performed in school halls and other smaller venues. They quickly gained national and international reputation.

Career
DeYoung, a self-taught keyboardist, quickly rose to become one of rock’s most valuable keyboardists. Through his keyboard playing, DeYoung described many of his steps while performing a concerto. After gaining fame, he appeared on the covers of ‘Contemporary Keyboard Magazine’. Styx returned to the studio in 1990 for the ‘Edge of the Century’ album.
Deyoung wrote the song ‘Show Me The Way’ for his son Matthew, which received frequent radio airplay and reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart. In 2008, DeYoung was featured as an artist at German Prom Night. He accompanied Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees on “How Deep Is Your Love” playing the piano.
DeYoung and his band performed many of Styx’s hits at a free concert in Chicago’s Millennium Park in 2009. Tommy Shaw, James Young, John Blasucci, Craig Carter, Tom Sharpe and many other famous musicians joined his bands. For solo works, he also included his wife Suzanne in the group. All of them used their talents effectively and achieved enormous success.
