Biography of Dennis DeYoung

Dennis DeYoung was raised in Roseland, Chicago by his parents, Maurice and Loraine DeYoung. DeYoung began his career at the age of 14 with two of his neighbor friends, Chuck and John Panozza, in 1961. In the late 1960s, the trio recruited two guitarists, James Young and John Curulewski.

Before becoming Styx in 1970, DeYoung and his bandmates renamed themselves TW4 in 1968. And the band quickly found success. DeYoung spent his early years in the suburbs of Chicago, where he also studied music. During that time, the band performed in school halls and other smaller venues. They quickly gained national and international reputation.
