Who is the brother of Eric Montross
Former NBA and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill great Eric Montross has died of cancer, according to his family. 52 was his age. A family statement released by the school Monday morning said Montross died Sunday at his home in Chapel Hill, surrounded by loved ones. After being diagnosed with cancer in March, he resigned as a radio analyst for UNC football broadcasts. “To know Eric was to be his friend, and the family is aware that the many lives he touched with his deep and genuine kindness will continue to be influenced by the kind, caring way he lived,” the statement said.
From 1990 to 1994, Montross was a member of Dean Smith’s Tar Heels and was a two-time Associated Press second-team All-America selection. He began playing for Smith’s second NCAA team in 1993. A year later, he was selected by the Boston Celtics with the ninth overall pick and played in the NBA until 2002. He was employed by the Rams Club, the fundraising arm of UNC athletics, as senior director of gifts with its broadcasting responsibilities. He was also known for his altruistic endeavors, including organizing a father-son basketball camp on Father’s Day weekend to benefit UNC Children’s Hospital.
The school released a statement saying, “Eric was a great player and successful student, but the impact he had on our community went far beyond the basketball court.” “He was a godly person, an amazing husband, father and son, and among the most recognizable representatives of the University and Chapel Hill.” When Montross was diagnosed, his family released his condition, but did not reveal the type of cancer.
